LSU sounds better than first name:

I've seen some dumb shite posted on tRant, but this is up there.

As Jim Rome famously said: If God gave America an enema, College Station is where he would insert the tube.

So Tiger Stadium preceded the campus?

Tiger Stadium celebrated 100 years during the 2024 Football Season.

Pineville would have been a nice college town like Athens, Oxford, Fayetteville, Auburn, Starkville.

My grandfather actually worked on the new campus. As I was growing up he kept asking me when I would go to LSU. He talked about it up to the day he died in 1973.

Good catch. I had to google it. Looks like Tiger Stadium was one of the first structures on campus, and school business was taking place where the campus is now. But it wasn't until 1926 when LSU officially moved to the new campus.

quote:

Tiger Stadium opened in 1924. While the university began moving to its present campus in 1922-1923, the university officially moved to the current site (south of downtown) by 1925-1926, making the stadium one of the first structures built on the new site, rather than pre-dating it.

Before 1924: LSU played at "State Field" on the old campus downtown, near the current Louisiana State Capitol building.

1924: The first game was played at the new "Tiger Stadium" on November 27, 1924.

The Move: The entire university relocated from the downtown campus to the current Highland Road campus in stages around that same time, with the move largely completed around 1925-1926.

Therefore, the stadium was built alongside the development of the current campus, not prior to its existence.

I-49 would’ve been built a hell of a lot fast too if we could’ve left well enough alone.

But no way to foresee BR would end up an urban shithole. It is what it is. LSU isn’t moving like so many other Louisiana entities have or will.

Smartest move ever buying all that land for LSU.

Wish they had bought every acre between Chimes Street and Government Street.

I actually agree. I've been to all of the SEC schools (except Oklahoma). I had the most fun at the campuses that were the only thing in town; Auburn, Athens, Knoxville.

I think it just creates a better atmosphere when a college is in a small town.

I imagine Baton Rouge was considered a small town one hundred years ago. Not sure what year they actually broke ground to begin construction of the new LSU Campus but it was before May 1926.
There are aerial photos of Tiger stadium from 1924.

Someone here on TD's should be able to provide some input.

How many on here graduated from LSU at its present location?

Who graduated AND represented the school in Athletics or Athletic Marching Band?
