Very optimistic regarding next years defense.Wouldn't be surprised at a top ten finish.

It will definately be fun to watch... The only question is, who is going to take chads role and lay people out all year... I'm leaning towards Loston but who knows really

Better step his game up.

Chavis will have the LBs ready to perform, but the D-line is a huge question mark. I have no idea what to expect from those guys this fall.

Edwards played very well this year. Back-up, redshirt freshman, look at the stats, he may have been the best d-end on the team.

With Chavis, clearly the LB play improved greatly. I think the DL was just destined to be down - Alem was never an every down DE in my mind, and he continued to overplay the pass rush at the expense of run defense (but the LB play helped cover that in 2009).

If we can just hold serve on the secondary (and hopefully produce a second outstanding CB), and nudge the DL back in the right direction, I think we can have a very special defense in 2010.

Edwards was the best DE we put on the field this year. Edwards >> Aghayere

It'll be similar to our 2005 defense. Very very good. Might save Les' job if the offense can get decent.

I hope the scheme improves. We cant afford to give up large chunks of yardage each and every game and let the opponent convert 3rd down after 3rd down.

I didnt see Brockers in your list. He's a beast

Where is Levingston in all you geniuses' lists?

I know yall are all excited about the young guys like montgomery, but Pep is a starter. He plays the defensive end position way better than anybody else we have. He's not just a "pass rusher" like Alem was, and he's bigger and stronger than guys like Chancey and Montgomery. In 2009, he was a more well-rounded player than any other end we had, but could possibly get caught by Chancey or Lavar in 2010.

If by well rounded you mean not as terrible against the run as Alem. He was a complete non factor in the passing game so I don't see well rounded. It was pretty much the opposite. Also he's supposedly being moved inside.

+ Chavis =

Soft defense that no one fears, which won't lose games for you, but won't win them, either.

Great first 1/2 of 09, not as good second 1/2. Needs to mature and not jump routes as much. Should be top 5 pick in NFL draft 2010.

I respectfully disagree. He's going to be the best every-down DE we have, whatever that is worth, unless the and Lavar (who both played inside and outside in 2009) both switch inside or pull double duty. I know we've all heard he may make the permanent switch, we'll see what happens.

You're right that Pep didn't get any sacks last year, but it's not like anyone on our line was a big factor in the passing game.

He did have 8 tackles for loss, 4 pass breakups and 2 qb hurries, so it's not like he doesn't do anything right.

I just think when it all comes down to the first snap in the UNC game in 2010, Pep will be out there, regardless if he is the "best" pass rusher
