The QB didn’t see the contact and got stripped from behind which is why you don’t carry the ball around with 1 arm.

You can’t punt. Could get blocked or returned. Could also get the rare fair catch free kick you don’t see much. Running out the clock in the end zone for a safety was the right call. Poorly executed.

When there are 6 seconds left and you try to run out the clock then take the safety to win by 1. Don't want a blocked punt or a free kick after a fair catch. Even taking a safety with 2 seconds left on the clock requires a kickoff return for a TD to lose.

In college, a mistake of that magnitude is on the coach.

I’d definitely never trust that QB again to do something like that. He is running around the end zone with no ball security

I still think a roll out and throw it into the stands would be objectively better.

He could have thrown it out of bounds, taken a knee for a safety. Either the QB or Coach or both are idiots.

QB takes the snap and drops back towards the back line. When he’s about to be hit he steps out the back of the end zone.
Hopefully 6 seconds elapse. If not, you free kick from the 20 as far as your punter can towards a sideline and give the other team the ball with 1 second left.
You absolutely do not run around in the end zone like that.
