Why not bump the ole miss receivers at the line with zone over the top by safeties? He allowed these guys to have uninterrupted route running; and Chambliss had perfect timing. You play press coverage, disrupt their routes, and cause Chambliss to question the timing of the route.

We didn't play man due to being scared of Chamblis's mobility
When we were down big, the risk was worth it

Its 4 quarters in football stop judging just the 1st two 1st of all.
If you had a qb that can complete a pass to wide open players they’d have similar complaints about the second half while ignoring how good they were in the 1st. Like yall are doing.

I get that but an adjustment should have been made after the first touchdown. You can have a spy shadow him. Baker waited to long and it cost us 24 points in the first half.

Dumb part was going back to what wasn't working instead of sticking with what was working in the second half.

Same thing I said. Our corners would’ve matched up fine playing man all night. They didn’t have fricking DK metcalf and aj brown on the outside.

It absolutely did. Bakers fear of getting ran all over again killed him

It's a risk:reward scenario
playing aggro man like that is a huge risk. When we had momentum the one thing we couldn't do was allow chunk plays to Ole Miss and man/blitzing severely increased the chance of that

Baker always seems to wait to half to make adjustments

Correct
He only threw for so many because his mobility made our D play in a way that left a ton of secondary/coverage space open.

Ole Miss average separation on completed passes was 4 yards
FOUR frickING YARDS OF SPACE
At that point there is no risk of leaving zone.

This happens every year, at least three times.
We will lose again next week because Baker, for the third year in a row, won't be able to scheme to stop Reed.

Dj Pickett was the only corner they seemed to trust to press vs ole miss’s receivers. Woodland was 10 yards off even when we started playing man lol

Woodland was definitely singled out
We gave him safety help early, and he still couldn’t cover the Under

If sam was accurate the last two would’ve cost them

Zone had nothing to do with the fact we got zero pressure up front without a few blitzes here and there. We got manhandled on the line of scrimmage. We were so sloppy. We missed tackles and took bad angles of pursuit. It was a really poor defensive game in the first half.

Do we have the defensive secondary to play aggressive press coverage and man?
Posted on 9/20/26 at 8:20 am to Catchfalaya
All I know is I hope we never have to depend on Jimcoily in a game situation again.

He was definitely a deer in headlights. Spears injury was a big blow. I like that they moved Cooley into the star position after half with Jhase playing the free but man we need to fix some angles.
