Harris signed a UDFA contract to be a member of a team.

Hutson participated in tryouts.

That’s it.

I don’t have a problem with Wright being left out. He participated in training camp and a preseason game, and received a signing bonus.

Harris though. Dude thought he was out of eligibility and signed a UDFA contract so he could rehab his injury, not knowing he would receive a 5th year of eligibility after signing. His contract only took effect if he made the 53 man roster, which he didn’t so he received $0 dollars.

Harris has a better case to return to college than any of the players who participated in mini camps because of his injury.

There is a binary distinction between signing a UDFA contract and participating in tryouts while having your room and meals provided. Unfortunately for LSU, that’s where the line is drawn. You guys can’t seriously be arguing they’re the same thing

The difference is arbitrary in the grand scheme of things. Neither contract guarantees a roster spot on an NFL team. It’s ludicrous to pretend that there is some meaningful difference (if we are talking about how “pro” each player is) between a player who tried out at a mini camp and got cut, and a player who tried out and got further in the process, but was also cut.

How do you threaten LSU with sanctions over the very thing you’re currently allowing at other schools?

Any of yall remember the SEC threatening to kick Alabama out of the conference for playing a NBA player in actual games? How about Ole Miss for playing Chambliss this year when technically he's not eligible?

I’m saying that if we reference the actual language of the bylaw in question, there is a legitimate legal angle of attack to the contrary.

I don’t think that’s true. LSU can currently go sign these mini camp players, just like other schools have. On the contrary, if another SEC went and tried to sign Garris or Wright, they wouldn’t be able to.

This is only the case because the SEC is publicly claiming that it is, but in the same way that the NCAA’s 5-for-5 rule has no terminology explicitly excluding the class of 2022… the bylaw doesn’t define any specific type of contract other than “with an NFL team”.

That gap between what the NCAA claimed vs what the NCAA knew was written… is exactly why the NCAA had an injunction against it in the first place.

This is how the law works.

The only reason we haven’t rostered the players is to make the SEC brass look even dumber than they already look.

We are good man.
They’re incompetent.

the SEC rule is players can’t sign a contract with an NFL team,
there is no way an NFL is letting any player step foot on their field or use their training facility without signing some form of a contract.
You sign a contract if you rent a car or a jet ski. Hell, if you rent a carpet cleaner you got to initial and sign.

They drew that distinction a week ago after the initial LA court ruling. Nowhere was that distinction made until recently, and since the distinction was drawn LSU hasn’t done anything to indicate that they intend to violate that distinction.

They didn’t even. They tried, but they seem to desperately need new lawyers.

Can you link this bylaw? All I can find is what is on the NCAA website, unless that is what you are referring to.

A contract which was voided, and $0 of which he ever received.

ETA: I hope he sues the conference and wins a shitload of money that every team has to pay for except us.

What do you mean by this? Lane’s explanation during his interviews today seemed it indicate that he chose not to roster them because he’s still worried about SEC punishment. Appearing as he’s backed down/capitulated to SEC declarations vice what the BR judge stated he was allowed to do.

How does not rostering the players for the game today make the SEC “look dumber”? Look dumber to whom?

The SEC filed a lawsuit against LSU because LSU was going to break their new rules and roster these guys, until they didn’t.

So the SEC has an active lawsuit against one of its member institutions for something that hasn’t happened yet.

Because they have preemptively levied an already thin federal lawsuit against LSU for alleged damages that, even if you buy their ridiculous 1st amendment argument… haven’t even happened yet lol.

Look harder. This is the entire basis on which Roddy Gayle Jr’s lawsuit against the NCAA succeeded.

A few law firms have linked the actual docs on Twitter, but I’m too busy running around today to go hunting down links.

Just go read about Roddy’s case.

Ok last Monday then. Fine

And ole miss and South Carolina recruited them before that.

Unsure the point you are trying to make here

Well, they can't now, because those 2 are enrolled in class at LSU, but do you honestly believe any of this would have happened if they had returned to Ole Miss, or gone to Alabama?

ETA: That's a rhetorical question not really meant for you.

If their suit get’s tossed, as most legal opinions I’ve seen on TD suggest, then yeah SEC looks foolish to those who know the law. That’s a very small cadre who few form their opinions on.

The predominant narrative and position of all other SEC Presidents besides LSUs (which Sankey is using as leverage/authorization for his bylaw, punishment declarations) all portray LSU as the “wrongdoer” in this situation. LSU having lost the information war thus far, I’m not sure LSUs reputation/image gets repaired if/when SEC lawsuit gets thrown out and loose any appeals to Thursday’s ruling. It’s a disgusting situation that Sankey and the media cabal has put LSU in and I’m not sure I would ever trust current SEC leadership to operate in good faith w/ LSU until a leadership overhaul occurs.
