I'm not saying it's right or justified, but it's easier to see and be annoyed by a late offer from a school 100 miles away than a school 1,000 miles away.
Exactly. I'm sure he got the negative recruitment pitch about how LSU didn't want him until they couldn't get Cam Akers. The staff made a huge mistake in putting all their eggs in the Akers basket. Of course the kid (Etienne) is going to feel disrespected. Number one RB in the state and LSU doesn't jump on him early??? It's almost as stupid as LSU not recruiting Dak Prescott until it was too late. Etienne may still come to LSU, but if he does, we'll be fortunate.

1. Its not disrespectful, its a numbers game.
2. So why is it not disrespectful for Clemson to only offer after a decommit?
3. They recruited Dak at a different position, its a totally different scenario.

Did Edwards-Helaire get an offer before Etienne?

While you can count me among those who think we should have offered TE earlier, he needs to grow up. This is how recruiting works. The only school that didn't make him a backup plan was A&M, and it looks like he ditched them.
Kind of my thoughts as well. Unless there's some maturing what will his response be if he feels some other back at Clemson got carries he should have gotten?
I want every kid from LA who is capable of playing at this level in P&G. Going forward, that's our bread and butter. An offer from LSU is nothing to trifle with.
So it is disappointing to not see the top WR, top DB, , top 2 LB's, 2nd best DL, and Travis committed to us. I guess other than Allen and Moses they're all still in play.

LSU did not full press Etienne until Akers signed with Florida State and the staff wanted Akers for good reason. Hind sight would be nice to have but so goes recruiting as there is no crystal ball. With this said Etienne will choose his school and hope him the best.
The athletes we have lost Akers, Moses and Allen to name a few were all worth going after and the price you pay for going for the highest rated players is you miss on others who move on. I wish Etienne the best and hope he chooses LSU but if we miss on him then next year running back will be a big need.
There is no need for this board to bash Etienne or Coach O if he does not commit to LSU
This should be stickied for all the mouth breathers to understand.

LSU is up front with these kids. They tell them to be patient an offer may break late. They don't stop recruiting them
Exactly. Often in-state recruits in these situations are being recruited harder than high priority 5 star guys when all factors are considered. They take multiple unofficial visits, attend camps on campus, have been recruited for years, and coaches know how to show them a lot of love even though they don't have an offer. The staff also has to be honest with them and their HS coaches.

But I don't buy the Clemson thing...just hard to believe a La RB will pass up an LSU offer.
Same could be said of a linebacker.

To recruit Etienne. I stopped there to eat breakfast on way to Houston. It's the talk of this little cafe this morning
None of that happened

Can't blame him or LSU
LSU wanted Akers and they just missed on him.
Etienne feels slighted and Clemson comes calling.
Defending national champs.
Why not?

I don’t care. Just like he has a right to run his own recruitment the way he sees fit, LSU has the right to run its own recruitment as it sees fit too. Let’s also not forget that he had previously committed to Texas A&M either.
Moreover, Les Miles and Cam Cameron had been fired, and after the season coach O waited until Lane Kiffin found another job before hiring Canada. Therefore, there were legitimate reasons for waiting so long.
Of course, we were also waiting to see what Cam Akins was going to do, but we and everybody else does that to many recruits that are not as high up their recruiting board. By far, he wasn’t the only recruit forced to wait their turn for an offer, and let’s not forget that he had also previously committed to Texas A&M back in June and then subsequently de-committed in August.
Now, if it had been left up to me, I would have gone after him first before Clyde Edwards-Hilaire, but that was Miles’ decision. However, then again I’m not so sure that he is actually better than Edwards-Hilaire. Hence, I wouldn’t have gone after him unless I was absolutely convinced that he was better than Edwards-Hilaire, and it may not have been clear at the time that Edwards-Hilaire committed back in February 2016.
In any event, if these reports are true, then Etienne is acting like he is the number one rated 5 star running back in the country, and he is not that. Therefore, he needs to grow up and get real, and if he doesn’t, then I hope he goes to Clemson. The last thing LSU needs on the team is a prima donna.
Now I read some long quotes of his dad talking on Scout Monday, and his dad says that Etienne’s changes his mind every time the wind blows in a different direction and from day to day. Therefore, although Travis was reacting positively to the Clemson visit, his dad was warning everyone not to read too much into his son’s positive reaction to the Clemson visit or into what his son says, because he could change his mind if the wind starts blowing in another direction.
