I meant my comment more as a general statement, not necessarily directed to the johnsons. But I do wonder about that one as well. Idk if Brad is one of those parents that isn't giving his fortune to his children or not. Maybe those kids don't recieve any type of financial support outside of necessities from their father. IDK. It's not like they he left before Brian Kelly was hired, they knew they would play for a really good coach.

$500,000 isn’t measly to anyone no matter how much money they have. That’s objectively a lot of money and last time I checked, Jake isn’t the one who already made a lot of money in the NFL regardless.

It really isnt a lot of money for a decamillionaire especially when you consider this is probably some made up number from message boards and even if it's $500k he probably is only seeing a small fraction of that in reality due to them not meeting their promises and not much of that would be up front or this year anyways.

Yeah it would be Jake's money not the families, but again I have a hard time believing a relatively small amount of money was any motivating factor from a decamillionaire family to get a kid or two to go there. I mean the more reality of the situation is they were probably sold on Jimbo's use of TEs which he has used a lot in the past - Wydermyer and Sternberger specifically at A&M.

Just sees like a silly argument to even bring up honestly, even if the $500k is remotely true.

Are we sure NIL was any motivating factor for the Johnsons to A&M? They come from a loaded family, Brad made over $53M in the NFL, I dont know why they would care about a measly half a mil.

When we fell apart and O got fired, A&M had to be an attractive destination just because of how their offense works. Take a look around the P5. Who is using TEs as a focal point of their offenses? Georgia, A&M and ND topped that list with Cincy just outside the P5 right after last season when he bailed. Georgia didn’t need him and I couldn’t blame him for picking A&M over ND at the time, especially with an incoming class that had to look like a sure thing.

It’s ironic that Johnson would have been in better shape if he had just stayed here. The Kelly and Denbrock combo are as TE friendly as it gets and he would have had an immediate role as thin as we are there.

Yea I’m sure he’s thrilled with his choice. The money was inconsequential for that family. He’s at a good school playing on an outstanding team with a bright future.

I’m sure he’s noticed Taylor having a great year but is still content to redshirt and enjoy the atmosphere that the 12th man provides.

I think A&M had another TE in that class

A&M signed 3 TE's in their 2022 class. 1 dude is from Sweden and has only played 1-2 yrs of organized tackle football. Yet this dude who plays football in Sweden was ranked by the 247 experts as the #6 TE and overall #216 recruit in HS. What a fricken farse. Hid film resembles Pop Warner leagues with kids running around exhibiting zero skills and fundamentals.

I just know we're better off for it. It pulled Max off the team.

If we pull Harbor, end up better at TE and Qb

Okay so what do you think is left of the $53 million? He probably paid at least 15% f that for agents, trainers, etc. That leaves about $46 million. Then he paid taxes. Maybe he got away with 35% somehow. That leaves $30 million, and he has yet to spend a dime on his living expenses.

Assume he lives on $1 million per year. That sounds like a ton to most schmucks, but it is not a wealthy lifestyle. And let's say that $1 million per year lifestyle started in 1995. He would have eaten into his nest egg at first, then he could have earned about $1.2 million per year based on 4% of his $30 million. That is a reasonable income off that investment. He'd be paying taxes on that, though, so assume 30% taxes based on a blend of capital gains and ordinary income. That leaves $840,000 to live on each year. Enough? Maybe. But it's not enough to support your sons in that lifestyle for the rest of their lives.

Sure it is. NFL players also have vested retirement after 4 years I think. I don't know how much he gets, but it's probably more than average people make in a year.

ETA: looked it up, you have to play 3 years, and he gets $5640/month.

I thought Jake Johnson was the #1 rated tight end in last years class.

Who cares what Jake is thinking about Mason. Not me, I have better things to do such as keeping up with my fighting tigers and not a tigerbait A&M player.

Yes it is man. Some of y’all have no concept of money. Net worth is completely different than cash in your bank account and $500,000 cash is, again, a shite ton of money. Brad Johnson is nowhere near rich enough to think $500,000 is meaningless

Is there a recent example of this actually working out? Two brothers committing to the same school while playing and both actually finding success. I dont think Jordan, Rickey or Justin Jefferson ever played together did they.

No, he's 3rd among their TEs in snaps with 10 snaps in 2 games, clearly trying to take a redshirt and probably get out of dodge
He will go - and drag his brother along - where Dad finds a coach who will listen to him.

Did Max use his one time or did he use "the Coach got fired"? Do we know?

ETA: I assumed (!) he used the Coach exception.

Speaking of that, how did the twin brothers from Texas who went to Alabama do?
