I don't seriously think that they ranked him where he is because of skin color.

But you're wrong though. There's absolutely no precedent for ranking the white receiver highly by the services, and they are clearly going through what the black QB went through.

Here is testimony from some recent victims of said stigma.

Sports, and football in particular, is about as merit based as it gets; especially in today's age.

Because you can't measure intangibles that this kid has. You can't measure heart, determination and will to win. Look at TM he was a 3* mainly because of size and didn't have the fastest 40 time but who can deny his on the field skills. I will take a guy 6 foot that can can make plays over a guy 6'3 that fits the "prototype" receiver mold. I will take 4 Josh Reeds (5'11) as my receiving core any day of the week.

I agree completely. As good as his film, camp performances, and productivity has been, I think the intangibles are hard to appreciate if you are not close to it, and the staff is well aware of them and hoping that they will help the meeting rooms, practices, team building, etc.

Some of the rankings are a little weird. Consider 247's evaluation of Quinn vs Sims:

Glad he committed when he did. (Not that I ever thought he would go anywhere else. His family room at home is supposed to have a big print of Tiger Stadium in it). After he breaks every record this year, he will rise to the top.

I hate to think it of people but he is, after all, a white kid. Even has the nerve to have light hair! With these skills?

Reverse racism?

It does exist, but I doubt this is happening here

these sites aren't that accurate sometimes...

It's a part of life especially in professions that require profiling such as player analysis. The guys who assign the ratings and slot the rankings build their credibility on the accuracy of their predictions. In other words, they are hedging their bets on the odds that a white skill position player other than QB is likely not to become elite even when statistics in high school prove otherwise. Jeremy Lin dominated at the high school level yet no college would offer him a scholarship. He carried his Harvard team on his shoulders and put up great stats yet no NBA team took him seriously until after he bounced around for 2 years.

I believe it has to do with who they want to be better in the eyes of the populace. See a particular dwarf.

Any reason why? Most people will automatically assume the black skill position player is better than white skill position player.

and this type of profiling doesn't help either.

40time - 4.38sec

One question: Does this mean he his faster than Speedy? Last I checked Speedy was in the 4.4 range

I would bet that the ranking analysts are overwhelmingly white, so that kind of blows the reverse racism out of the water. And yes, there is a high error rate in these rankings. But if you are going to take the time to rate individual players and publish them, those ratings should make sense in the rankings. WRT 247, their published ratings do not make sense.

The most likely explanation (to me anyway) is that these rankings are a lot bigger job than most give credit to. There aren't enough bodies and time to due justice to the implied accuracy. After rating the players individually which will give them broad groups, they probably go with their gut. If you look at the WR rankings on 247, even though sub 6' Speedy is #1, it's pretty obvious they have a bias for tall WRs and that's probably the main factor.
