re: Why is it so hard for RBers to accept new posters, even with crazy questions?

I find it important to realize that I will most likely never come up with anything interesting to say/ask that has not already been discussed by the regulars...so I search and lurk. Been doing it for years and have never had a lack of information to go through! If a newby just pops in with a random question without ever spending time on the board...he/she deserves the backlash. I for one enjoy reading the banter that follows, quite funny at times.
Even as a "regular" I rarely start threads because its usually something that has already been asked or posted if I look for it.

things could be improved on the search function. Hardly works half the time for me. Now, granted, I might be using it wrong but still. How are we supposed to know? Could somebody make it easier? Or maybe a how-to?
The search function used to be great, but now it sucks. I used to rail on people about searching, but now I cut posters a lot of slack and usually only get on to them if thier question could be answered by a post on the first two pages.
I miss using this one.

The culture on this board is one of intelligence and informativeness - in direct contradiction to the Rant.
If RBers react negatively to the rantards it is probably to protect the culture of the board.
If a newb honestly wants to learn, it has been my experience that most RBers are more than happy to answer questions and discuss recruiting.
Just my two cents.

Ill give an example.
How long does Mett have to play. I mean it was asked and answered every fricking day. Its not hard to Google search tigerdroppings.

It's not the e-cred. It's the question/post and how it's asked/posted.
Questions such as, "Who is the surprise recruit this year?" or "Do we have a shot with insert #1 recruit in the country name here?" will get negative comments.
Questions such as, "Hey guys, I searched and didn't see anything, but does anyone know how the recruitment of insert WR from Lake Charles name here is going and is he worth an offer?" will usually get good answers. If they post a link, they will actually earn praise from most of the Recruitnicks.

is there anything wrong with fans posting here who have a common affinity for the LSU Tigers, sharing mutual respect, if not reasonably warm collegiality?
Regardless of post counts or other such arbitrary indicia of (self) worth?

It seems that for some, participation on this board is the most meaningful intellectual and social interaction of their lives. They find it tiresome that they already possess information others come here to find.
People have to start somewhere to learn about both recruiting and posting.
Give the hazing a rest and let LSU fans of all levels of experience participate.
If this is the most exclusive "club" in which you are a member, you have other problems to be concerned about.
U mad

quote:meh, even with a shitty search function, its not hard to find the "Official Leanard Fournette discussion thread". no need to have 3 threads about him every day because someone has a new question. post it there, and it will be answered accordingly. it helps keep the board from being a jumbled mess of repeated questions
How are they supposed to know? They are new and the search function blows. Most people don't check the board every day

I don't know, I searched Tuesday night for Will or Wiiliam Clapp to post that I watched him play basketball and my impressions that night and the only thing that came up in the search was a thread in Jr Day asking who would commit. Someone named him in that thread, but it wasn't a thread ABOUT him. Search feature sucks!!!

I lurked this board for about 2 years before I felt I knew enough about recruiting to make a meaningful contribution.

quote:man, I guess we just don't talk about Will Clapp enough. I just tested it out using the google custom search, and it wasn't till page 3 till I found a thread dedicated to him (commitment thread fwiw).

I certainly wouldn't have given you any shite for starting a thread about him

I would have. But only because his post would have been great in the thread I started about LSU prospects in the basketball playoffs.

I saw an ad for RN and wondered what a hospital had to do with Robert Nkemdiche. I commented that I'd been lurking for too long on this board and thought of Nkemdiche and not registered nurses. Someone promptly RA'd .
