Why does everyone think LSU is poor?

The narrative on this board is that LSU is poor and they are at a disadvantage in NIL versus other schools like Texas, Alabama,Texas a&m,and Oregon. I think a lot of people conflate LSU the university with LSU the football program. Funding for the University might struggle but the LSU football program is universally considered to be one of the five most valuable college football brands in the world.
In the last college football NIL analysis from a company that does this for a living, LSU is ranked third nationally with their NIL fund. It had Texas at 22 million, Ohio State at 20 million, and and then LSU at 20 million. LSU exceeded Alabama by 5 million and they doubled Oregon's NIL fund.
LSU's rank was driven by the second highest amount nationally in donations from the community at 75 million to the football program. This pushed your total support to 122 million yearly for the football program. This is practically tied for first in the country with Texas number one at 123 million.
Face the facts: LSU is not actually a victim of NIL at all, they are one of the winners, one of the schools that have a huge advantage on everyone else. This does not mean that they'll win out on every recruit. I imagine they have a budget and they're sticking to it. Their strategy is to stick with their budget and not throw huge amounts of money to any particular recruit.
Anecdotally, I've lived in all parts of the country and I see LSU fans everywhere. We truly are a national brand.

Post a link to this study. I’d like to see it. Where are you getting that LSU fans are donating $75 million a year to the football program? The 12th Man Foundation presented a check to the Texas A&M Athletic department for $160 million last year.
I don’t think very many people actually know NIL numbers. As great as Gordon McKernan is, he can’t touch Phil Knight money or some of the Texas donors.

Because it’s an easy excuse and this site tends to be an echo chamber with the same trolls parroting the same talking points over and over again.
Truthfully, if LSU could not compete in NIL then the back to back top 10 classes would not have happened. Not wanting to spend millions on unproven high schoolers is a bit different than not being able to spend millions.

We don’t have as many boosters as a lot of schools the way I understand it. And the longer they go on paying 18 year olds to go 9-3, the less they’re willing to pay, logically.
It doesn’t matter. This shite will sort itself out. I don’t care how much money or how many big boosters a school has. I don’t know Bama or Ole Miss’s situation, I can’t imagine they’re much better than LSU’s if at all. Places like A&M and Texas will beat everyone, but that won’t last. Rich people don’t like spending money for nothing.

I've been trying to drop the knowledge that LSU's NIL fund is absolutely light years ahead of where it was just last year, people just aint hearing me.

No doubt but it’s that one Billionaire that’s dishing out the stupid money in Oregon & Miami’s case. Texas & 8-4 have stupid money no one can match. If Knight at Oregon or that dude? in Miami, write a check for recruiting say a 100 million, they don’t even have to jot it down in their book. You know like when I buy groceries and write a check Let’s see that’s $83.24 minus $94.25 carry the one I now have a measly $11.01 til fkn payday. Ugh

LSU benefits from NIL. We aren’t the top but we are right inside the next 5-20 teams. Gordon has been on the MM show and broke it down. We are doing much better.

Lsu isn't poor.
They just aren't competing with these top nil schools like Ohio St, Oregon, Miami, Georgia, and a few others.

You ever took a drive around Baton Rouge? Clean, Safe, and Wealthy are not words that come to mind.

Wasn't it just written a few months ago that lsu's football budget for nil was between 6-8 mil? And I believe this had been upped from the yr prior.
Seems like lsu got a late unorganized start with nil.
Some of these teams are spending 14-20 mil each year.
Lsu and Kelly probably have certain #s for each position that they won't go over in most instances.
Lsu mightve offered Moore 250k a year and Oregon offered him 1mil.
Lsu mightve offered Pickett 300k and Oregon and Miami are offering 1mil.

LSU is getting to the point where they can reasonably drop 15-20 mil per year, depending on the recruits and their level of talent. CBK will spend the money, just smartly.
He understands his team better than any of us could. He is not going to let money be something that tears his team apart. I don't think those teams outspending us are doing so without other consequences making themselves felt, at least behind closed doors.

The prior link is to the study that I based my numbers on in the methodology that they used.

Additionally, most NIL collectives are very protective of their funding. Accordingly, our estimates are not what specific collectives receive in contributions. Instead, we are providing what we believe to be a reasonable estimate of funding a collective(s) supporting the school might be expected to generate in funding, given the school’s historic level of support from boosters.
They are basing a big portion of their NIL “estimates” on ticket sales which is pretty irrelevant when you are dealing with how much big money boosters are willing to spend.

I confess to not knowing how nil works very well. That said, I assume from the rumors that we have a few guys like Todd Graves and Gordon McKernan helping out with NIL deals. Graves is on of just a few billionaires our state has. Matt Stuller and Gayle Benson are kind of low end billionaires, but I have not known them to be big LSU sports supporters, they might be. I do not know McKernan’s wealth, but I wouldnt imagine it’s comparable to real heavy hitters. I appreciate what he and Graves do though.
Texas has over 50 billionaires and their top ones could buy Graves 5 or 10 times over. Georgia and Florida are both loaded with billionaires and billionaire alum.
By way of example, Michael Dell lives in Austin and has about 50 billion (some say 100 million) If all he did was invest in money markets he would make 5%, 2.5 billion a year, about 250 mil a month. If Dell puts up 10 mil for nil this month, then he only makes 240 mil this month, assuming he only gets 5% on his investments when it is probably double that. Dell often makes 50 mil plus donations to UT for all sorts of stuff.
So the reason I think LSU is poor is because schools like Texas, Texas A&M and Georgia have fans and alum who have incredible wealth compared to LSU.
I’m very impressed with how LSU has done in recruiting so far. To the extent nil deals are funded by private individuals, I have no idea how we are able to compete with schools that have massively rich alums.
I do not know if LSU is poor and to what extent LSU funds nil deals itself as compared to what our alums contribute. I do know there are schools with way more wealthy alums than we do. I would think Ole Miss and Alabama have the same problem we do. Arkansas is a poor state too, but for Jerry Jones they would be in real trouble.

No LSU doesn’t have a Phil Knight, Michael Dell, or Les Wexner but people like Lipsey, Landry, Gordon, Graves, Chouset, and the Bollinger family can keep LSU up there with the elites.

You guys might as well get it in your heads. We are not in the top 10 in NIL. BR and LA is not a wealthy city or state.
We will not keep up with the Texas schools, Oregon and OSU
I live near Columbus and that city is growing and growing. There’s so much money there. LSU might have Canes, but osu has many big name businesses that originated from there.
Oregon has Nike
Texas has anything and everything including Oil

I know what OSU doesn't have though.
A set of balls.

Cats, please go away. Go back to Ohio, anywhere. You have become the most negative negatiger on the rant...
