Why do we struggle getting DL?

Sure, we usually get 1 5 star signature DL at the top of each class but honestly that’s it. We have the 2 best defensive lines in America, and we cannot portal and recruit more than 1-2 big DL per year. Why?

Dline has a whole doesn't have numbers like other positions. At the DE and Dt you will have single digits elite players. Lsu saw how much teams are going to pay with (Stewart).

LSU signed a really nice group in this past cycle. You’re not going to get a 5 star DL every year. It’s just not going to happen.
Take a look at Texas, who has one of the best DL groups in CFB right now. Those are mostly 3-4 star guys Bo recruited and developed into studs. Hopefully he’ll do the same here.

D line and O line prospects are hard to project. Even players that are rated highly sometimes they don't pan out. Theefore, proven commodities in the portal carry high price tags.

Uh, have you not paid attention who they snagged in HS recruiting last year and this year? Have you paid attention at the portal at all? LSU got 2 top DL in the portal so far which was the same DE that was planting Jayden Daniels in the ground constantly. They have also got several blue chip lineman.
What's this board's obsession with thinking LSU doesn't have money? How many teams are you seeing with top 10 HS classes and top 10 portal classes?

True DL, not oversized LBs that rush the passer, aren't plentiful when it comes to quality. Elites, true elites not the ones journalists overrate due to tools, are very rare(the greatest of the era played at Pitt and wasn't highly sought after). Add in the extremely high demand for them and it's simply a supply/demand issue. That creates bidding wars and those willing to spend more or show more creativity in selling are gonna win out in most cases. Case in point, Justus Terry. He was all UGA until Texas overpaid. They went beyond what UGA was willing to pay. Desperation plus more money creates that.

When the 2025 draft comes and goes, LSU will have had 6 DL drafted over the last two drafts.
4 portal, 2 homegrown.
