Yep, that would work too. In this age of 300+ yard passing games, also hard to have too many edge rushers.

Basically what we need is:

#1: a stud center
#2: the next coming of the gronk at TE
#3: a DB with a multiple skill set.
#4: a big, athletic linebacker who can play on the edge and cover.

We could lose some after Spring Ball too. What's the transfer cutoff?

While true, the players who DO leave can change the priorities for who we use that last spot on. I think that was the point of the comment. For example, if Smith stays in the portal and leaves and then another WR bails, we might take one with that 4th spot.

It would be a good ideal for them to hold off on using the rest of the spots until after spring unless someone who we just can’t pass on hits the portal between now and then.

I think most of us would be happy with this too!!

247 Portal Players Article

This article says RB Camar Wheaton likely to SMU. It will be interesting to see how OT Tyler Sheen's visit goes. Things may be quiet until Spring or at least until key visits take place.

Yeah I can't imagine any QB that actually wants to play coming in with Brennan in there and Howard and Nuss. Hopefully Nuss doesn't bolt after Spring.

Yes, it seems to me that CBK and his staff will evaluate the QB position in the Spring and determine if a move is warranted or not.

On a related note, I was looking at the NCAA recruiting calendar for football. It is a convoluted maze that the coaches have to navigate through (dead period, quiet period, evaluation period, etc...).
2021-2022 Recruiting Calendar

January 31– February 28, 2022: Dead period
March 1 – April 14, 2022: Quiet period
April 15 – May 31, 2022: Evaluation period
Coaches can take 168 evaluation days (or 216 for U.S. service academies). An authorized recruiter can use one evaluation day to assess a recruit’s athletic ability. Then, they can use another evaluation day to assess the recruit’s academic qualifications. Coaches/recruiters can do both assessments on the same day, and then take a second evaluation day to evaluate athletic ability again if they choose.
The days in April/May that are not designated as evaluation days are considered part of the quiet period.
June 1 – July 31, 2022: Quiet period
July 25-31, 2022: Official visits may not be provided to high school juniors
June 27 – July 24, 2022: Dead period

Recruiting will likely pick up again a week from Tuesday or March 1st (the current Dead Period ends February 28th).

I thought this was a good explanation of the different NCAA recruiting periods, just in case you are interested.

I know there will be a great great prospect show up out of nowhere that everyone will covet. I'm glad we have four holes left. After Spring a new group will appear.

Down to 3 spots with the signing of QB Jayden Daniels. A lot of folks here did not think we would sign a QB. But I have faith in CBK that he knows how to build a roster.

So hopefully we land OT Tyler Sheen, a TE, and another OL or defensive stud with the last 3 spots. We may save the last two slots for the Spring Training period.

I’m hoping Steen, TE and either a LB or cover CB.

Our DL numbers are going to look thin after this year. I think we need another pass rusher with 2-3 years to play.

Center- he is the second most important player on offense. Although there is not a game changing one on the board you probably have to take the best available OL for depth/experience.

CB- Because to many unknowns and the propensity of injuries at this position. (Depth)

TE- but there is not a player in the portal that can do it all and that’s what we need. This is a high priority for a H.S. recruit for 2023. Looks like we are going to have to suck it up with what we have. Coach them up play them young. We have the depth we need but not the players that stretch the field and block at the same time. You get predictable on offense when you sub a blocking TE and pass TE. So I say on to the next need.

NT- We are thin in the middle here and at LB. I would rather be stronger up front so I give the nod over MLB.

MLB- Depth experience needed here.

Under no circumstances do we need another QB/RB/WR and here is why.
Crowded QB room and the end of spring will bring a transfer. With a transfer and Cluts Brennan moving on we could be attractive to Arch.

Crowded RB room. May be two of these transfer in the spring. They are all capable with a capable OL and good play calling. This is the major reason we got no RB outa H.S.

We are just right in the WR room. We have some experience and big talent here. Go get some great H.S. recruits.

So what I think will happen. Kelly will grab the Best available OL and LB. he will leave one open to snag anything we need because of injury and or transfers that hurt us depth wise.
