They had incredible talent on that team. If I recall, they had about 9 or 10 players sign Division I-A scholarships

98 WM had 12 sign D1 and 8 others sign in either baseball or at smaller schools.

best teams for nela > 98 west monroe, 89 Ouachita, 90 Ruston.

I played against 98wm and the film sessions were like watchin freddie movies when i was 6. they were scary. I still had 8 tackles as a dlinemen against em.

Marshall Faulk attended SD State because they were the only school to offer him a scholly as a RB.

+1. Granger was an Allen parish boy from Oberlin.
And you've got to mention NFL hall of famers
Jimmy Taylor and Steve Van Buren. Modern day, Kevin Faulk was sensational in High school, often gaining over 200 yards rushing from the QB position (see RS)

I may be the only person on the board to have seen Cannon, Fuller, Collins, and Ford play high school football in person.

Although, except for Ford, I only saw one game of the other three.

Leaving Ford out for obvious biased reasons, I would have to say Collins was the best in the game I saw - but Fuller was exceptional as well.

Both of those games were at Leesville Homecoming games though, so they probably played against cupcakes.

I saw Cannon in a playoff game my senior year in high school. I do know that he was awesome in that game, but don't remember specifics about it - 51 years ago. Ran, punted, kicked extra points - was a beast on defense. He did it all.

Don't guess he was that highly recruited seeing as though he ended up at SD State.

Everyone in the country wanted the kid as a CB...FSU and LSU are included, but SDSU offered him at RB and the rest is history.

Marshall Faulk took the only offer he got, to play RB. San Diego State. LSU recruited him for another position, DB I think...

Without a doubt it has to be Cecil The Diesel Collins.
Unfortunately he was such a head case and what a waste of so much god given talent...

I read an article about a year or so ago about Cecil Collins. The journalist visited him in prison and interviewed him. He wrote that Collins acted carefree and actually jovial sitting in the prison cafeteria in his orange jumpsuit. When asked if he regretted losing all of his incredible opportunities...playing football for a living, women, money, admiration, etc,...Collins just smiled and shrugged as if to say oh well. Then he wandered off and started talking and laughing with another inmate. The guy just doesn't give a crap.
