Keep taking a HS QB in every class

That’s where the problem lies with me. As of now, it’s unlikely we get a HS Quarterback this year. Next year, unless we pull a rabbit out of the hat for one of the ones already committed, it’ll be iffy on any we get unless one shows out and shoots up the board.
Otherwise, we’re either hoping to get one through the portal or waiting until 2027. If BK doesn’t get a top QB in that class, he has really screwed the pooch (Nuss little brother, top QB, and player in the nation Haven from LA, and another QB in the top QB’s from LA)

Cannot and will not happen under current NIL and transfer portal rules. Maybe score a high 4* QB and then perhaps a 3* that could possibly develop. But having to spread the cheese to retain and recruit your roster every year doesn't leave a lot for loading up at one position.

They make it sound so simple, don’t they? It’s much more complicated in the current environment. You get it.
That’s why I asked the question. There’s a lot to consider now

Frees up money for the portal. All players are really just free agents every year at this point.

Not always gonna work for some positions like in this case (QB). It will in 2027, when there will be some top talent in state. But, until then, you can’t just hope that you can get a good one out of the portal or get into other states and steal one.
If you only have a couple of QB’s on your roster these days, the recruits don’t just look as playing time. With the bidding wars, you have to figure in, like in BU’s case, the fact that they might be using you just to get more money because they know you’re desperate.
Or, maybe that’s all you can do - hope.

I guess it makes sense if you’re not afraid of tampering. But, otherwise you don’t know what you’re going to get in the portal. Even then, if you’re not willing to just settle (Swann), or take a gamble and hope to get lucky (Burrow and JD), then you have to be ready for another bidding war with another equally or even more desperate team.
I just wonder what they plan to do in a worst-case scenario like this.

If it’s as simple as not paying top dollar for an unproven at college level HS player, but being okay with doing so for what they consider to be a more deserving player that has proven themselves in the college game, then I can understand that.

Do you have a source that they did none of this?

No. I have no evidence either way. I’m just saying that should be done in all situations like this whether they did or not. Kinda “if” they didn’t

If you don’t use NIL money, it doesn’t do much good.

I understand they lost their Coach, I get it….
but coming directly off a national championship , I’m surprised they couldn’t recruit for themselves without needing $10+ million offer

This sport is so scummy now,, if it wasn’t already and always

I’m think we need to stay in guys ears whole time regardless of commitment keep player abreast of
Coaching changes and at the end of the year late November early December just drop them massive bags and be the last to offer may just be the ticket

I’m inclined to think this is the correct answer

This is never going to happen with any program. There isn’t but one QB on the field. Not the same with WR and RB as you compared. LSU did everything right with Underwood. A billionaire stepped in at tge last minute and made him the highest paid recruit ever. It sucks but no fault to LSU on this one.

This worked on Underwood and Phillips, but failed with Berry, Pickett, and about 7-10 others who signed with LSU and passed on a last minute bigger bag. It’s not a one size fits all.

You don't believe they do this as a matter of course? There is always a backup plan , just because its not posted on the front page. Its likely they planned on Nussmeier returning and Underwood backing him up If Nuss eners the draft they had enough confiedence that Underwood coud handle being the starter. If he flipped as occurred they may not have connections with a high school QB they trust to start as a freshman so they would get a quality starter from the pportal.

Projecting H.S. to college can be difficult- remember Ishmael Sopsher of Amite? He was the #1 rated Defensive Tackle. Thankfully, O lost that battle to Saban...
