Janzen Jackson for me. My one and only true recruiting melt. I wasn’t even that mad at losing him but the way he went about it that really pissed me off.

Had to be Collins with all the mama drama on national TV. Real soap opera but embarrassingly got drawn in at the time. Still, F that MF'er.

Tony Brown. The whole sick parent, being closer to home, etc. and then commits to Bama. Then while at Bama he seemed to be a POS on the field too.

REC paid off dad's medical bills. total BS. we pulled so many strings to get Bealoved enrolled so they could run track together. their childhood dream. they way she smiled and said "I guess I have to say ROLL TIDE" made me wanna slap the both of them.

Actually, it is a character issue. For some it's immaturity (see, e.g., Dylan Moses). For others, it's a real self-hatred (see, e.g., Gerald Willis). I know this: the ones who come down to the wire and stay (Fournette, Devin White) are real men. That's why I'm not too worked up about Sopsher. If he has the balls to say to Nick, "sorry but I'm going to rep the boot and help bring us back," then we got a beast. If he doesn't, there is a 50/50 chance he'll pan out due to maturity or worse issues.

This is a pretty damn good perspective. I like it.

Think about this (and maybe we should start a Rant thread about it)... change nothing about the LSU program, but switch coaching staffs the last 10 years: LSU is 9-1 vs Bama under that scenario T or F?

That's a good question. Wouldn't changing staffs alter recruiting, or do we keep the same recruits? I know I've said many times that we won games in spite of Les Miles, not because of him. We all know for a FACT there were a few games that would've had a different outcome if Les could simply manage a damn clock. Don't get me wrong- I loved Miles as a person. He was also a decent recruiter. I say decent because although he had the ability to get great players, he had trouble addressing needs. He seemed to be all over the place. No order whatsoever with his methods.. lol

All this being said, I think you have a valid point in your question. I damn sure can't answer it.. There is also the variable that the hypothetical staff would be WORSE than those staffs. So if you're just talking BETTER staffs, I'd say it's likely.. I wouldn't go with 9-1, but more wins than we have now, for sure.

I haven't been following recruiting for too long (5 years or less) but I never got mad/disappointed until Surtain pulled his shite last year. I remember logging into 247 that morning and seeing all of the CB's to Bama and just feeling like someone stabbed me in the gut.

That made me learn reallllll quick to not get my hopes up when Bama really and truly wants someone - and to appreciate the ones who decide to stay and play for the good guys (LF, Adams, Guice, Stingley, etc)

For those who say Collins, he committed to Bama on 1/6/12. Do you think if 1/9/12 hadn't been a shite show and we won that game, we could have flipped him back??

Jerry Tillery was a huge loss, although he committed to ND pretty early, it still sucked to lose him.

As a casual recruiting follower, and mostly lurker on the recruiting board, I don't tend to melt publicly, but I get pissed every time one of these young men string LSU along to obviously intentionally hurt the recruiting/program. I'm not that pissed at the recruit because they're young, and they're just going along with whatever their parent/handler tell them, and I do have an enormous amount of respect for the recruits who commit or de-commit early in the process to allow programs to make arrangements. It mostly pisses me off that recruiting student-athletes has become like two companies fighting for market share, and LSU has been directly targeted by Bama/Saban, the most ruthless of programs. The most recent example being Surtain Jr.

I believe LSU landing Jamal Adams was the launching point for an emphasis on this technique by Saban/Bama. When Hootie went for Bama, and LSU replaced him with the stud 5* Jamal Adams, Saban learned his lesson that the recruits need to string LSU along and wash out the ability to actively recruit alternates. It seems to be happening again with Sophser, and it sucks because you are forced into the situation based on supply/demand of elite recruits like Surtain Jr or Sopsher.

Well I watched Bama play UGA with 5 potential LSU guys on their D, pondered our D, and thought to myself we don’t miss a damn one of them.

I thought the opposite. We don't miss Isaiah Buggs? Are you out of your mind?

If we had Surtain, Buggs, Carter, Savion, and Moses we'd be a much better defense. That's a fricking fact. Sure we've got solid DBs, but Surtain is a fricking beast that would've played a lot this year and Buggs is a future NFL starter on the DL.

In hindsight was #5for5 melt proven to be the most useless melt in the history of the rant. LSU got the good players the rest never lived up to the hype.

Willis made 2nd team AP all-american, yeah, he had issues early on and even transferred, but he's still 2nd team All-american...

Dont forget Moses either...

Could you imagine Surtain and Stingley on opposite ends for two years??.... geez... aint no one throwing the ball on us...

For me, Surtain... that was mine... he was committed for ever, then dad pushes him to Bama...

Landon collins.... Dylan moses.... Cam Robinson... was pissed at all three...

Joe Ferguson. It was difficult to follow recruiting back then but we understood he was coming. Have not put stock in 18 year olds since. With digital messaging these kids can all get their fame right off their phone, so of course they want their 15 min of glory - every day.
