While not the ideal size, if Combs has the skill, his size won't hold him back.

It's just hard to see how someone like that will translate. It's a lot easier to bang down low up against your typical C-USA PF who is probably 6'6, 6'7 or 6'8 and generally not very skilled probably. It's a lot different going against more skilled 6'8, 6'9, 6'10 type guys here in the SEC. I'm sure it was a rude awakening for Bridgewater and Sims when they got here and realized what they got away with in high school doesn't work against 6'9 skilled SEC big men.

Both horrible comparisons. Bridgewater is 6-5 at best. Sims is a 6-6 freshman.
Combs is a 6-7 senior with major hops.
Note: I'm not defending Combs. He may suck. I'm just saying you can't judge a player by size alone. Everyone has to have skill at any size. For a talented player, his size is sufficient. Is he talented enough? I don't know

He plays bigger than 6-7 and 215.
The question with him is does he have much of an offensive game outside of layups and dunks. He's attempted all of two three point shots in his career and made none, though his FG percentages (.561, .601, .563) have been pretty good. When you consider how terrible he is at foul shooting (.486, .584, .507), that's where his limitation is. He can't shoot.
Seems to be much like Jordan Mickey.

Jj would have got two 6 10 power players, say m and m or even better, just like mchale and moses Malone, but they didnt answer his texts. 6 6 is what he could find.

quote:Here are Patterson's stats from last season:
Yeah, I've seen his name come up a few times as someone who could leave but I don't see it. He's a solid backup PG like you said and can be a good defender. Plus he'll be a senior on top of that.
Games played: 31 Rebounds/game: 3.0
Points/game: 5.8 Assists/game: 3.0
FG Pct: 38.0 Turnovers/game: 1.7
3FG Pct: 29.0 Assist/turnover ratio: 1.7
FT Pct: 62.5 Steals/game: 1.2
Blocks/game: 0.1
None of his shooting numbers were good. To me his strengths are as a finisher on the fast break and getting steals in the open court. This may play well with Wade's up tempo game style. But a point guard who only shoots 62% from the free throw line and 29% from three is a liability. I know he can improve those numbers but will Wade trust him?

Combs is reportedly transferring to LSU.
Farmer is declaring for the draft.

Anyone have the scoop on who is leaving the team to make room for Combs?

Jeremy Combs, transfer from North Texas, is a possibility. Not sure if LSU is looking at him, but Wade hired Benford from UNT.
well done sir

Could this be another transfer add:
Wright State transfer Mark Alstork (@Mark_Alstork) has visits sets for Georgetown on May 8th & LSU on May 15th. Also talking to Louisville.

Geez, I cant imagine adding another guy, if that's the case Wade must be chasing some guys off he doesnt see as a fit. If Combs is possibly replacing ER III would he expect Mark Alstork to replace Patterson or maybe Hayward?

I'm sure it's just a matter of go after as many good players as you can and, if you get them, the numbers have to work out.
Unless Alstork commits, it's a non-issue.

With every grad transfer the odds of us having an actual team goes up. ER and Patterson being replaced by grad transfers is absolutely ideal. It wouldn't be a big deal to me if we lost Hayward but I do think he has a lot of potential and we have the right guy to get the potential out of him

The new assistant coach from Wichita State is supposed to be skilled at developing guards ... but no one is known for increasing quickness. If they are going to play an up tempo game, they are going to have to play quick players. There are a number of players on the roster who lack speed.

Alstork is a must.
His highlights
Get him and you've replaced Blakeney, and you can go out with Edwards, Alstork and either Sampson (if he'll play defense) or Rachal at the 3, with Mays, Jenkins and either Sampson or Rachal off the bench in a fairly decent guard rotation.
BTW, I also have this.

Make the Hayride the new LSU basketball recruiting site.
Also, Alstork is a beast. Would love to have him.

I'm encouraged, because if you go through his Twitter he's had a lot of contact with some pretty significant programs - Pittsburgh, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State - and it looks like it's coming down to us and Georgetown.
You put this guy on the roster and you run out with a lineup that looks like this...
Reath
Combs
Rachal
Alstork
Edwards
And then Mays, Jenkins, Sampson and Kiir, plus maybe Alexander if he shows up and plays worth a damn, and that's a team which might not actually suck this winter. That team could potentially break .500 in the league and crawl onto the bubble.
You would have recruited 4/5ths of a starting lineup, most of which as you were scraping together people in the spring signing period, but you would have done a decent job of it.
It's wishful thinking at this point, to be sure, and it depends on Alstork because as of right now you're still definitely short a go-to scorer, but if he could close the sale on that kid we could have some hope for this season. I know his team will have some fight in it, unlike what we've had the last several years.

If Sampson is still on the team (I expect he will be) then he's going to start.

Sampson is going to need a full-on attitude change from last year.
Though if he's still around it might be evidence that's what he's had.

Posted this on rant but I'm this is the same case with Patterson. He just seems like he has no desire to be great or even really good
