Don't throw stones... Press Maravich brought his son with him as a freshman. He was fired not too long after Pete left.

It won't be the first time for UT. Remember them hiring Allan Houston's Dad to coach basketball. right after he left school to go pro, they canned his dad
No one except Tennessee would ever do that.

Press Maravich was NOT hired to bring in Pete! Pete wanted in the worst way to go to NC but Press told him he was going to LSU and that was that! I don't think LSU even knew anything about Pete when they hired Press. Had Press maintained a winning program, he would have stayed at LSU.
If anybody was guilty of hiring someone to bring in a recruit, Dale Brown was one of the worst offenders as he did this at least twice, once with Nikita Wilson and again with another player who escapes my memory.

Stanley Roberts' HS coach.

I agree that if Press had produced that he would not have been fired. DUH

If you want to believe that LSU BB folks were unaware of Pete, that's ok, cuz I have no proof to dispute. If they were not aware, then that would explain the status of the program at that time.

That may well have been the case,TTG. It's early and I've had only 4 cups of java so far. Still waking up. Thanks for the correction.

Rumor has it that Daddy Dale brought down the former Soviet Union, cuz they would not allow Arvidus Sabonis to come to LSU.

ps to stay on point, it doesn't take much to excite the Vols these days.

"Right now, the plan is for both of us to go up there, but I'm not going with him this weekend," Guidry said in a phone interview with Gannett on Thursday. "Janzen is leaving Friday morning, and I'm planning on going up there to interview in the middle of next week if I go at all. I'm having second thoughts about it. It's been getting way too much attention. I have different thoughts about it both ways."

Guidry, 38, would like an assistant coaching job at a major program like Tennessee, but he doesn't want to pressure his son to sign with Tennessee.

"Because if I get hired by Tennessee, I would imagine they would expect for Janzen to sign with them," Guidry said. "If they're interested in me, they're going to have to want me for myself not for my son, too."

Guidry sounds like a solid coach, and I wouldn't blame him for accepting a job. But there's no way I believe UT has pure intentions here

It's kind of sad that recruiting is getting so ugly.

10 years ago, I guess no Rivals/Scout/ESPNU rankings. All of sudden, recruiting gets too much attention.
