NIL is obviously a factor, the point I wanted to make though was that Oklahoma, Georgia, Florida, LSU, and Utah all have NIL programs, and someone of her stature is going to create her own market wherever she goes. The NIL opportunities are going to be negligible. The difference will be visibility. LSU has capitalized on that with Livvy, Reese, and Flau'jae. Those 3 are among the most recognizable 10 female college athletes over the last decade. Even still, I think LSU beats out other programs on many other things. Anyone that has been to a home meet can tell you that those things pack in the people. That doesn't happen just anywhere, actually practically nowhere.

I like watching gymnastics but find the scoring system difficult to understand.

The hard part about the collegiate scoring system is that it doesn't adjust very much (if at all) for difficulty. A girl doing a very basic routine to perfection gets a higher score than a girl doing a very difficult routine with slight deductions.

Not trying to be a creep BUT:
Is there a scientifically proven correlation between being attractive and being good at gymnastics? Attraction has a lot to do with facial symmetry, are people with symmetrical faces more likely to have better balance and tumbling skills?

It was an honest question, I was not trying to objectify our athletes.

Class of 2026. 5-star recruit. Believe it or not, she is not considered in top 5 recruits, ranked at #6. From NJ where Olivia is from. Preston Duke is ranked #1.

Collegegymnews who does the rankings are incredibly flawed ranking system. It’s nice because it does bring attention and hype regarding recruits and to the sports but half their rankings don’t really make sense. They had one of our previous commits who was on the US national team as a 3 star
On no planet earth would anyone think Duke is a better gymnast than Hezly. Duke is great though so it isn’t a knock on her. I’m just speaking about how nonsense some of the rankings are IMo

I believe you but no there's probably not a correlation besides gymnasts are in shape and you're probably more likely to find an in shape person attractive.

I think we can assume the olympic gold medalist is the #1 recruit

It is not like a Master's champions playing golf at LSU. The level of gymnastics at the top few schools such as LSU are not that different from the gymnastic meets that determine who eventually represents the US in the world championships and Olympics. The athletes who compete who who are not in college still have meets that have many competitors who aren't medal worthy so they can prepare for the nationals and world meets. Many gymnasts in recent years choose to go to college instead, and word is that they almost universally love that team experience more than the isolation of training alone. Furthermore, in Rivera's case, she is only 16 and won her gold medal as being a part of the USA team. She did not win any medals individually, and has only started to compete outside the "Junior" level competition this past year. Competing for LSU will only serve to well prepare her if she chooses to try out for the Olympics in 2028. While doing this, she is likely to get the joy of being on a team competing for prestigious championships as well as getting a college education. Unlike golf, there is not a pro gymnastics league that she would have an option to do well into her 50s. This is her time, and i am sure she and her family thought LSU was a great fit rather than a step down.

Wow. I do t care much about gymnastics but even I know what a big deal this is. She’s a fricking gold medalist. Has anyone ever come to LSU having won an Olympic gold medal already? She steps onto campus as a legend already?
