What, in particular, stood out to you in Sheppard's film that made it "painfully obvious" that he was a better all around RB than Berry?
Patience, pass blocking, and vision. All of which are the reasons he’s the feature back in the ACC as a freshman. He’s not the fastest, but he’s plenty fast enough.
In regards to Lindsay, I really don’t know. I admittedly don’t know much about him. My big thing last year was comparing Berry and Sheppard. I pounded the Sheppard drum with Lester after watching a lot of his film. He had ALL of the attributes, and was clearly the best player on the field week after week in 5A, no matter who he played.
Berry was fast and twitchy. Those are obviously great qualities. But, I didn’t see much patience or pass blocking skills. St. Martins didn’t pass a whole lot bc they had the supposed best RB in the country to give the ball to. Now we see he can’t block well, which negates his ability to be an every down back and makes him a liability in the passing game.
Look, in the open field, I’d want Berry. That’s where he will flourish. But if I need my RB to get the tough 4-5 (or more) yards in between the tackles I’m rolling with Sheppard all day. His vision and patience are lethal and it was evident in his HS film.

That's a fair response. And like you, I don't know as much about Lindsay relative to the other backs mentioned. But I still love Berry's skill set and versatility as a receiver (he does need work in his pass protection, but that will come with time and experience) over them all. I do think Sheppard and Berry would make a great 1-2 punch, as their running styles are very complementary. We'll see how things shake out after this season.

One thing Lester was apparently holding out from us in his rankings is......the RB's ability to have some sort of connection to murder..... Had I known this I could agree with him on where Sheppard was ranked over others.

We have RBs that would look awesome with better run blocking.

That’s fair on Lindsay. He balled out in the deepest 5A district in the state but got decimated against an Edna Karr team that has proven they should be nationally ranked. If Rapides wasn’t open enrollment I’m very comfortable saying they win state in 5A non-select over Central. He still went for over 100 but that was his worst game of the year.
Still dumbfounded at how stupid he has been after doing everything right his whole life.
That’s great that Sheppard is balling and hope he has the desire to come home!

They’re literally 4 games into their career

that is exactly the type of cutting our RB's have got to learn how to do if LSU is ever going to have a decent running game. I think Berry and JJ have it, not sure about Durham anymore. Too slow in his cuts due to size increase imo.,,,but maybe ankle injury still is slowing him down cutting.

Berry definitely has the cutting ability and the speed. The vision and patience? We don't know just yet. I hope he does.
JJ? No idea.

Watched him play in high school, he was a man amongst boys.

Nobody wanted to listen, Les! He’s still the best player on the field - even in D1 as a freshman. Shocker!!

15 carries, 168 rushing yards, 2 TD’s
4 receptions, 33 yards
Sheppard gonna be one of the biggest portal guys if he transfers out. LSU needs to be all over this dude. LSU RB1 for 2026.
