I thought Jonathan Zenon would never see the field...WRONG

I thought Xavier Carter would be an All-American...WRONG

I thought Chris Davenport would be the next Dorsey...WRONG

I thought Jarrett Lee could be another Brett Favre...WRONG

I thought Russell Shepard would be a special QB...WRONG

I laughed when Jacob Hester committed and said he would never get past the practice squad...WRONG

I'm sure there are at least a dozen more in recent history that prove that I don't know anything, but that is why I don't get paid to recruit.

I never miss on a recruit. If i say they gone be a stud then they end up that way. I usually watch for kids that fly up the rankings all of a sudden and who show off at every stop. I may have been wrong when i said Landon wasn't starting at bama until his junior year because it's his junior year and he definitely not starting over sunseri and haha. I love that tho

Things I was wrong about:

I thought Daryl Johnson was going to be an All-American Safety for us.
I never thought Tyson Jackson would see the field until maybe his Sr. year.
I thought Matt Stoltz, Al Jones/Rahim Alem, Phelon Jones and Sidell Corely would be All-SEC.
I thought Alfred Blue and Steven Ridley would be linebackers.

MY BIGGEST MISTAKES:
I thought Derrick Odom would be a monster and Kelvin Sheppard would be a scrub.

What I got right:
I knew RS would never be a QB with that noodle arm.
I thought Dwayne Bowe would be a stud WR for us.
I knew Eric Reid would be a great defensive player for LSU.
I knew Barksdale would be a great OT for LSU.

The thing about this thread is that the COACHES obviously missed, too, so, nobody should feel bad, lol...

Wasnt it TheOcean who had a complete meltdown over Kelvin Sheppard and Perry Riley?

UGA didn't offer either one of them, so that was a telling sign that they obviously would never work out.

There were many in my head that I was totally wrong about, but I never publicly stated them, only presented vague-but-positive comments.

The ones I did post about:
-Jordan Allen: "The next Jared Allen"
-Michael Ford: "a Cecil Collins clone, maybe better"
-Mett: "With Spring & Fall practices under his belt, & more natural talent than Lee/JJ combined, there is no way in hell he doesn't win the starting job his 1st year here."

Derby Tiger IIRC

I miss his dumbass input on this board with he and his dad's advance scouting abilities. Always good for entertainment.

He still will be the next Chris Garrett instead, which is like the JV version of Jamarcus. Eating themselves out of football during college instead of the NFL.

So, this thread had me looking through old threads.....

Check out the knowledge dropped by Stagg....

quote:

Why? So he can sit on the bench at WDE behind Sam Montgomery for his LSU career?

He'll be a situational rush OLB.

talking about Mingo....

LINK

I couldn't go back far enough to find the conversations about Sheppard....which is unfortunate.

I thought Marc Ippolito was going to be a killer at ILB for us.
Bear Bryant didn't come to New Orleans very often, he was very selective, but Marc turned him down in his living room to play for LSU. 6'4 225lb LBs were rare in the late 70's. he wound up on the DL and never did much.
Is this too far back? I guess Tigerdroppings was just Tigergas back then.
