The OP is idiotic. Completely. And frankly DAF. On every level. Have you guys ever played football or coached anything?? So much so , it isn’t even worth responding to. And people are upvoting it? Holy cow.

I post on a few different boards, most of which do not allow personal attacks. Its hard to complain when you get insulted on this board, however, you have to know that may happen with any post you make.

When I read a post that starts out insulting someone, I tend to discount their opinion as my general experience with name callers in life is not all that positive as to their insights.

Do you find people give more weight to your opinion when you start out calling a guy an idiot and DAF?

I am just curious. Its a site where we are all LSU fans. I just don't follow the point of being unnecessarily rude on a forum with fellow fans.

Not that I give a happy flying frick what you think anyway.

That’s an emotional response.

If I was the #3 dual-threat QB in the nation I wouldn’t come to LSU either pre-Brady.

After seeing what happened with Justin Fields from UGA to tOSU, how could you say no to Justin Rogers?

What people seem to forget is that quarterbacks are usually pretty good athletes who can play other positions.

One of the kids we have committed, for example, is 6-7 and 250 pounds and runs a 4.8 in the 40. There's a lot you can do with a kid like that if he turns out not to be a good college quarterback.

If he's 2/3 string behind a freshman, maybe he's not another Justin Fields.

Isn't he a sophomore? He would have to sit a year, then have two. But that would get in the way of the ones who will already be here when the scholarship could be used elsewhere. He would have to be a can't miss game changer to be worth considering; but then he would be starting at TCU.

You’ve got 22 spots it’s not a bad idea to recruit an approximately starting 22 each season with some fluctuations.

We’ve had issues where we basically had to recruit 4 CBS last year just to get decent starters, and we are somewhat in that position now at DL.

That’s a fine goal until you get where you want to be. If we continue to have success @ the position the issue of early departures will come to play. (Junior LSU QBs leaving for the NFL )

Then you’re in a position where the next guy BETTER be able to do it or else you could be trotting out a freshman.

People said the same thing about Fields and Fromm at UGA, and like Fields he’s playing for a defensive minded coach in Gary Patterson.

He’s a RS Freshman, that can make a case for a transfer waiver given that he’s from LA. There’s nothing wrong with more competition at the QB position. If he’s good enough he’ll play, if he’s not he won’t.

The transfer portal changed things. I hear they have lots of 50” sony’s In the portal to watch and free Popeyes chicken sandwiches.

If you can’t find a good qb in the portal, you’re not looking. It’s the place now.

Putting all your eggs in one basket, especially with how early QB recruiting starts, is a recipe for disaster

I'll touch on both subjects in this thread.

I'm not a big fan of taking 2 qbs in a class but some years, such as this one, it's necessary. First we will only have 2 qbs returning neither we really know a ton about. Sure Brennan is essentially a shoo in starter but what if he's just not good? That leads us to reason #2s, what do we know of Parrish? The staff sees him every day and they want 2 qbs. Tells me Parrish is a sure thing to be ready or good enough. Reason 3 is that most schools have 4 minimum on the roster. Having 2 more instead of one gives us better odds of 1 or them being good enough.

As for the portal and it's changing of the landscape. It's changed for 2 reasons. Many more kids are transferring now(could debate for days why) and 99% of those kids get granted immediate eligibility now. Sure kids transferred before but very, very few were granted immediate eligibility.
Use Bru McCoy for an example. Kid signed with USC on signing day. A month later transferred to Texas and was on track to be immediately eligible. Then he transfers back to USC, and while not eligible, the case is/was still being considered for immediately eligibility. That's ridiculous but yet the landscape we have now like it or not. The portal essentially began college free agency.

I just wonder how much they have taken into account how the transfer rule has changed the recruiting game. Taking only one qb in a class where you might need two is less risky because of how qbs transfer now as opposed to five years ago.

1. That goes both ways. By your own admission, we could have one or more QBs transfer out within a few years.

2. Transfers count towards the 25 available recruiting spots each year. From a numbers standpoint, there’s not much difference between taking one freshman plus one transfer vs. taking two freshmen. The differences are that the transfer is more of a known commodity (which can be good or bad depending on upside of a HS recruit) and that the transfer has a shorter period of eligibility.

The real question is how many QBs the staff should keep on the roster - they should be taking enough (either through transfers or HS recruiting) to maintain this number given the attrition and have at least a couple of upside players/future starters in the wings.

I don't think the staff are considering next year when recruiting 2 QB's this year. I think they are trying to hedge their bets for 3 years from now with the idea of having more upper classman continuity at that position than previous years. I actually support the strategy but this year it kinda hurts because numbers are so tight and we are still in it with so many elite guys still.

Didn’t really take off until Russell Wilson and has gotten to another level lately, it’s pretty undeniable

If you alternate taking HS quarterbacks to develop, based purely on potential and a transfer (JUCO or P5) who has the right mix of talent, experience and moxy (who just can't start at his school and wants to or finished JUCO), it can work.

That way, a typical year sees you with 3 to 4 scholarship QBs (and 1 to 2 walkons):

Development - 1 kid redshirting OR 1 kid sitting out a year

Primary backup/future starter and other depth (if available ) - 1 RSFr or upperclassman you got from HS with 1 to 2 years in your system and/or an experienced transfer

Starter: Either your transfer "starter" (likely in year 2 with you) or QB you developed from HS as a junior or senior.

I think the days of taking 1 to 2 QBs from HS and trying to simultaneously develop/keep from transferring are long gone. Will be increasingly a 50/50 mix. Think of how good our Xfers have been compared to how bad our HS recruits (4- and 5-stars all) going back to Etling.

So true...the portal has changed everything and we have no better example than our own Tigers. Over the years we have made some poor QB pickups with regard to either development and/or they simply never really had the talent to be an SEC caliber player. I know we have 2 QB's coming in this year's class, but willing to bet this will be the last.

A very good player who wants to come to LSU will not have a spot because we are taking two qbs. It might be a 4 star offensive lineman, a running back, an edge rusher or another defensive tackle that wants in.

I thought about this a couple weeks ago when we had two commits that week and got to 24 and started looking, there were two Recruits that looked like you could drop because of the numbers... one of those guys was a QB...

if its me (and Im no roster genius obviously) i take the extra lineman/Rusher in stead of having 4 QB's... especially losing Thomas last week...
