Dominick McKinley

An interview with him and his Head Coach. The #1 player in the state! Thought some would enjoy.

McKinley talks!

Welcome Captain!
Very enjoyable!
Too follow up, they have more interviews with players from the Lafayette area, will try to post them when they are released.
That entire area has a number of players that will be recruited hard by LSU and a number of schools. Right now, LSU is becoming the “Go To School!” Look at Women’s Basketball, LSU Baseball, the ESPYS. A major player in this off season!

LSU's status as the "go to" school is not a new development.

Seems like a very introspective kid. After watching that, he really doesn't give any indication to which way he's leaning. He doesn't seem like he's gonna get caught up in the hype.

He comes off as a kid who is going to make an informed and intelligent decision based off of the factors that are important to him. Thank God LSU has a good engineering program.

You’ve seen a number of kids leave the state, go back an look at the top 15 from years back. Right now, what 8 of the top 10? It’s been a roller coaster ride for a Go To school.
Remember seeing kids with the U, bama, Florida St, USC, so many schools replaced the Tigers as the school.

You can tell he’s not comfortable with all of the attention. Basically goes with everything we’ve heard about him and why no one feels like they have a lead in his recruitment.

Basically that’s what I’m getting from someone on the inside. It’s not an easy choice for him, in a number of ways. But the committed players and he all talk. They seem to have a great understanding of the process. Wish him and the rest, only the best.

Which is why if I'm Kelly, I sit him down with Lindsey and House and show film of how he will be utilized and developed. Jenkins thinks Lindsey is better at development than Cain so hopefully he articulates that and shows him a vision of how he can get better and develop.

A&M and Texas have very good engineering schools. Show him we have the whole package.

I like the way you think. I’m just saying, LSU has always been that sleeping giant. In all sports. Skip took baseball to another level, Kim just took Women’s Basketball to that next level. Other sports are getting that way.
The last three coaches in football won National Championships, two of those guys wouldn’t have won one anywhere but LSU. Odds are Kelly gets one here. But Kelly is not like the others, in a way, he will win and continue to win more.

I feel like Kelly is the perfect coach for a recruit of McKinley's nature. His emphasis on graduating champions, his intellectual approach and his demeanor has to be another point in our favor.

I also seriously doubt NIL is going to be the deciding factor for this young man. His focus on grades, studying and preparing for both school and football to the point that he doesn't have any hobbies speaks to how focused on his goals he is.

I think Kelly and the staff's long term plan for their players and specifically McKinley has to play well with him and his family.

There is always that kicker, but yes, the young man is going to have one of the biggest choices in his life. Kind of like the Big Swagu, the #1 TE coming out of high school, they show you what a TE in the NFL makes and what a DE makes. Easy choice.

Im confident that McKinley will be at lsu next year. He reminds of Shelton Sampson at this point last year. Always gonna go LSU

I didn't get good vibes from the interview, and then I stumble upon this LINK.
quote:

Horns247 reported on July 25 (paid content) that Texas and the Oklahoma Sooners are in the “pole position” in the race to land a commitment from McKinley late this summer. This report also notes that the LSU Tigers and Texas A&M Aggies are fighting for positioning behind Texas and Oklahoma among McKinley’s top group of schools.
Not too confident presently, but still holding out hope...

But, they are getting the mercenaries being shopped around who want to cash-in on their stock, now. They’re not getting the real soldiers.

Personally, I’d rather have a roster full of 4 and 5 star talent than a bunch of 3 stars that want to be there. This kid is kind of a must get.

That's not to say we are going to get into a bidding war for guys. Kelly is not going to get involved with that on principle.

Most thought Tylen Singleton wasn’t going to end up at LSU after he didn’t visit on forever and saw all these other schools. Let’s just see how the weekend goes.

McKinley has said he wants it to be a surprise. If lsu were the leaders publicly, then I’d be worried. He’s tight lipped about his recruitment for a reason. Seems like a down to earth kid who will want to be closer to his family. Also, McKinley camped at LSU last year with a WR named Russell Babineaux who also plays at Acadiana (he will be at the splash). Babineaux left with an offer and McKinley didn’t. Might be one of those “if I wasn’t good enough for you then” scenarios. But at that time McKinley hadn’t played much Varsity ball because he was a sophomore behind 2 very good senior DE’s. At this point, who knows what he will do. I’m hoping he ends up in the purple and gold with his WR Wreckin ram teammate. Acadiana isn’t known for its wide receivers. He’s 5’8”, so he must have absolutely balled out at that camp.
