history is correct, distant history. Our roots may well be the ole war skule, but we're certainly not running around with the fake army in 2011. Not so much rednecks, but coonasses. I'll take a coonass over a redneck any day.

You will never routinely take players LSU wants from LA (SEC or not) unless LSU's program collapses.

Please. All they get is our crumbs as it is.

quote:I agree completely. A & M is a fine university, with a long tradition. And, if it moves to the SEC, it will be more competitive with LSU in Louisiana. It may also be true that LSU will be a more attractive school for Texas prospects.

If you read the discussions on that board you would think that the drilling we put on them in January never happened. They also believe not only would they rule TX and LA in recruiting that they would have a foothold in GA and FL as well.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've never seen that said about GA and FL, but I also don't remember playing George Washington ... whatever that is.
In other news, much of recruiting has to do with exposure. If A&M were to start playing against SEC states on a regular basis we'd have more of a presence there and prospects would be more likely to choose A&M than they would if we were playing in the Big XII. That's a pretty common sense concept and I'm sure y'all follow that.
Going in and whooping everyone's arse in recruiting in their own state is a delusional train of thought.
Mike Sherman will be recruiting the LA area more regardless of our conference affiliation. Is he going to beat out Miles for everyone he wants? Nope. Will Miles beat out Sherman for everyone he wants? Should happen that way, but some kids want to go out of state to play.
If A&M plays in the SEC, and a LA kid wants to leave the state, but still wants his mama to be able to see him play - A&M would be a realistic possibility. Especially if mama cares about schooling.
These are all simple concepts, and would have more of an effect over time, but I don't think any of that thinking is unreasonable.
I think Texas A & M would be a great addition to the SEC. And, I hope you guys do it.

If I were to link this thread where some guys are saying "You'll never get a recruit LSU wants." Aggies would think y'all are equally delusional. But that's what I like about LSU. Y'all are a little insane about football too.
I don't think any reasonable Aggie is going to say we're going to go into any SEC state and clean house. However, it only makes sense that our recruiting would improve in SEC states if we changed conferences. And I'll say this again, I'm not even counting on that to happen, because our in-state recruiting would pick up even more-so.
A&M's athletic department is kicking tail at the moment (football on the ups, but hasn't "arrived" yet), and the longhorns are underachieving. Yes, it would take the equivalent of a longhorn "program collapse" for us to surpass them historically, but we're already competitive with them in football even though they pretty much get all the recruits they want.
Then again, their recruiting class rankings are a bit inflated since the guys at Rivals are longhorns and bump up a recruit's worth when they express interest in the Longhorns.

If A&M joined the SEC, their program would be on par to UGA, USCe, Ark, whoever is better at any point in time between MSU and Ole miss, and Tennessee. And I'm being gracious with a couple of those comparisons, but I want to use a larger sample size to make my point.
With that said, which one of those teams have "taken" a Louisiana boy from LSU ever since Miles arrived (2005)? ONE and that was janzen jackson, and if you kept up with this recruitment, it was anything but ordinary. 1 Kid in 7 recruiting classes. You are talking about hundreds of scholarship offers between these schools to LA kids with LSU offers and they manage to land ONE kid with a fricked up situation.
NOW please tell me what A&M would offer a Lousiana kid that those schools DO NOT OFFER.
Please enlighten my arse.

I dunno sir, I've repeated myself enough in this thread. Kids make their own decisions is what it comes down to. Maybe it'll be a kid in Southwestern LA that wants to play close to home. Maybe it's an A&M legacy that happens to live in LA. Maybe the guy wants to play in a 3-4. Maybe he wants to be a petroleum engineering major. There's a world of reasons out there but it's not up to me or you to identify them. Recruits are going to do what they want to do. There's no such thing as enlightenment here.

I have to agree with your train of thought.
If ATM was in the SEC they would cetainly be more appealing to Texas recruits and maybe some La. recruits who want to go out of state.
Putting ATM in the SEC is a win-win for your school.
That being said, you would win less games and have to basically start from scratch with game plans since the SEC has balanced teams with great defensive, not mostly offense minded teams like you play now.

What in the hell makes you think that you wont be a doormat in the sec?? If you cant win in the Big 12 consistantly, what makes you think you can win in the SEC?? 4th or 5th in the SEC west isnt an accomplishment every year little brother..its okay

Because they are 0-4 against the SEC the last two years. That's reason enough to have faith they will dominate in the SEC. DUH!!!!

Quit projecting. I know y'all were "about to dominate" last time you played an SEC team but nobody else was buying it.

They are not really punished and only on probation for paying Hicks, despite Lie$ Mile$ trying to cover it up until later in the season and pinning it all on one "rogue" assistant (kinda like the "rogue" professor that caught Ridley cheating last fall).
Where this probation may hurt them is their Willie Lyles dealings, for which investigations are still going on and Lyles has a lot of dirt on LSU. They claim they paid $6k for a CA and KS JUCO package, but don't explain how the JUCO package allowed for Lyles to attend visits to Clear Springs, HS along with LSU assistant coaches. Miami people are 100% convinced that they paid for Patrick Peterson and with Van Malone's (who's never been accused of being a liar and had little to gain and everything to lose by talking to an investigative reporter) claim about Lyles and Peterson- I think LSU could now get "hit" while on probation.

WTF are you talking about clark?? im not one of these delusional texas fans..I couldve told you we lose the 2009 BCS by 8+..Silly me, but i am objective.

I'll admit I haven't followed all that closely enough to form an opinion on it. I did think Miles' last interview on College Football Live was awkward as hell. Did y'all see that?

Every Ag I know is worried about the opposite. LSU will always rule Louisiana.

Lester Earl, I think it's because A&M's given a standing offer to every single public and private school football player in Louisiana. It's our carpet-bombing strategy.

Because it's the off-season
