Don't be surprised to see this one change come the signing day with those last minute bids.

This applies not just for McKinley, but several others we are recruiting.

It's kinda like those ebay bids if you ever use to play around with them and like me, you'd get super pissed when 5-6 idiots would keep going into a bidding war days before the product even entered their final bidding minute. I always waited until the last 20 seconds or so to bid on something. The right way to do it otherwise you're hurting yourself.

Hopefully the war chest increases in time for ESD

This whole thing has been strange. Not just the mystery around his recruitment, but I can't remember a 5 star #1 Louisiana recruit with so little fan fare.

I think Kelly and staff have made every effort to get him to commit, but also are taking a wait and see approach to possibly watch his SR season play out and maybe turn up the heat towards NSD if he commits elsewhere. Not based on any inside info, but I just get the feeling Kelly might be holding onto a card to make a final play if he chooses.

From what I’m told, Kelly is ok where we stand. If we do or don’t get him, we are good. Some kids you try to get, some you try, but are not bothered if they go elsewhere.

For sure the LSU side is going to try to do everything they can to try and get him back before ESD. Apparently Coach Lindsey's wife has been doing the reaching out for the LSU side.

That's the other thing it's so easy to recruit against this

I’m just not sure he’s viewed as a 5 star war daddy type by these staffs. I think he clearly has that potential but it seems to me that his ranking doesn’t match his market value, so it’s been kind of murky. If you compare him to a guy like Perkins or Simmons who are ready to start day one at a decently high level, I’d have trouble paying McKinley that type of money. I kind of get the feeling LSU isn’t interested in overbidding for him. I think Texas was willing to overpay just to get the Louisiana talent but I don’t think he’s viewed as a guy you bust your budget for. If A&M wants to money whip him it will probably work.

I'm never going to bash a kid and say he's not that good or play the jilted card, but I am inclined to agree with your assessment. He may turn out to be a 1st Rd stud, but at this point I don't think he's viewed as a can't miss type prospect. His greatest value to LSU may be that he's a position of need and it's not good PR to let the #1 prospect in LA go elsewhere.

If this boils down to NIL at the end when the whole time LSU insiders said that NIL wasn't a factor it really proves without a doubt that they're not clued into anything

It’s not strange. It’s like every kids recruiting story when they leave the state. Exact same stuff happens everytime.

Man it’s not complicated guys. 95% of these recruitments are coming down to nil deals and if you believe otherwise then well I can’t help you.

I've heard he has booster backing on him if he wants him the question is how much do they want him. They want him but how badly is where nobody knows. You seen what they did with Perkins. BK gets on campus and said I want that guy and they were jumping through hoops to get him here. Last minute he's all LSU out of nowhere. pretty obvious what happened there.

I can't say it or anyone else just speculation but maybe this staff is not as in love with him as the recruiting services are. One thing is for sure. LSU knows more than any recruiting service if this guy is a 5* can't miss based on their scouting or not.

Makes you wonder doesn't it? If LSU was making a hard run at Simmons that money doesn't just disappear. They obviously viewed him as can't miss. Guess we'll see who LSU picks to replace him or if they make a harder play for him later. Maybe he's just not that interested period.

Mike Roach just said he’s changing his prediction to A&M after what he’s heard in the last 24 hours from 3 different sources

Apparently Aggies upped the offer

That's the shite right there. fricking Billy and Shea both said this wasn't an NIL battle . Now we find out that sure he wanted to be close to home but that really wasn't the straw after all.

Seems this staff keeps a very tight lid on things. With O and previous staffs, we’d have heard so much in regards to where a kid is leaning, etc. Our insiders truly don’t seem to know shite, which would lead me to believe no one inside the LSU building is giving them anything.

The staff felt good enough after the Bayou Splash to tell the insiders they thought they'd landed Simmons

The ink isn’t dry on him yet. I have a hunch that that battle is not over yet.

If that’s the case then I suppose we just need to find a better replacement recruit. Either that or hopefully get in on some really good transfers at some point this season. I’d prefer to land a couple of HS DLman and another pass rusher. Louisiana has more talent in the next two classes at this position and playing time is very possible. We need at least a few more DLman in this class though.

Ugh. I don’t get why LA recruits would consider that underachieving program over LSU.

Cuz that “NIL” bag of money was FAT YO! As long as they keep the fat check writing flowing, they will continue to pick off the ones that can be bought. Not rocket science
