This just isn’t true , idiot.
Cooley did play the Nickel position on the vast majority of his snaps this year. At least get your facts straight before being an awful poster. He played less than 5% of his snaps at true free safety position this year.
If you think he's going to play free safety over nickel at LSU, then say that. But I don't think you have a clue.

He said all he played was nickel/cb which is false so gfy as well.

Where are the Cooley highlights?
Posted on 1/14/25 at 7:04 pm to TigerConvert93
What ive seen aswell. I have yet to watch a game and see him at safety. Its been all nickel. Im only three in but I thought this dude was a shoe in, bonifide safety and I can't easily, or have yet to find him playing the position. Did he swap there late in the season due to an injury?

I saw some of his highlights. He made a honey badger play. He stripped and took the ball away. We had great db play in the past that we took for granted. Hope this starts a new era.

That was the only highlight I saw, but in that same highlight he got tracked down by a white receiver.

Yea, i have some apprehensions of just naming him the starting free safety next year and honestly dont understand the 2nd rated 80+ safety rating. Dalane looks more capable of playing safety than Cooley. If anyone has a few highlights of him coming up and making some good aggressive tackles id love to see them and be wrong. I can't find them. Looks like a good slot, nickel db...

Oof. Guess I didn't watch it that long.

They dropped his transfer rating on on3 to below a 90, like the 8-10th best safety in the portal. Not sure what that’s about but after he committed to lsu..

Maybe because they actually watched his film unlike most everyone on this board that was singing his praise without realizing he’s not a true free safety

Went and looked and ON3 still has him at #94, #3 safety which they've always had him at.
The industry ranking shows a drop as 247 has him at #234 and ranked as a corner.

Has anyone actually seen any tape on Cooley? I'm with a few of the other posters... dig the PFF grades and all, but have yet to find any actual tape/highlights other than the one fumble recovery. How do you guys know he's good? Not doubting, just want the same proof!

Safety doesn't show up on film. I'd love to be wrong if anyone can provide some video evidence of such. He's a solid slot or nickel db but doesn't love contact or appear to be some great open field tackler. I do think he could grow into a Kary Vincent type player but its not on film currently and far from a sure thing. The whole safety thing is confusing to me.

Same.
That’s why I’ve been asking why are we crowning this guy the savior of our safety problems.
But they just kept throwing his PFF score in my face when it was 5 points better than Ryan’s.

Can you link the film you watched? I could not find anything on him more than a couple plays and mostly just interviews.

I think it was 10 points in the overall defensive grade, and 5 points isn’t insignificant.
