To maximize Nus we need to give him protection. Are we gonna take some portal tackles to protect the blindside?

Outstanding… that was well executed sir
Hats off. Even though only us Gen X’ers will get it

I lay in wait everyday for someone to say “surely you can’t be serious” just to issue that line

If the young guys don't get snaps next year they will hit the portal. At some point it's just a revolving door if you don't develop the young guys. I'm glad I don't have to make these decisions!

it's a revolving door even if you develop the young guys, and in some cases, more so... it's a catch 22... play them and develop them, and they hit the portal to capitalize on their development... don't play them or develop them, they hit the portal in search of a new place to try to play, develop, and/or get paid too...

CFB roster management and the typical logic that went with it that you grew up with is forever gone

Next man up.

Starting OTs don’t hit the portal. Most programs make sure these guys have big NIL deals.

I think we take 3 OL in the portal...all starters if things go the way they should.

This just isn’t the case at all for top programs. The number of dudes who have signed with an actual national title contending program (ie anyone who could have a chance at a national championship if they had a season at their program’s ceiling), played early, balled out, and then entered the portal without there being a major coaching change is basically zero

I doubt we get 3 plug and play starters. Maybe 2. You can pretty much bet on Davis and Adams starting. Key and Curne are 5 star talents and may push to get in the lineup. And if they are good enough, you have an anchor for 3 years. The old days of OL development are over with the portal. It’s hard to get guys to wait even one year now.

I’m betting that Davis starts at RT and Adams fills a Guard spot. Echols will battle with a portal Center for that job and we will likely have a starting LT from the portal, but Key will be in the mix. I think Curne will start at the other Guard spot. Maybe not week 1, but eventually. If you have freshmen or redshirt freshmen who can cut, you have to play them.

I think Chester will leave in the spring after losing his job and also not starting at Guard.

I do know we have Josh Thompson visiting next week from Northwestern. Big 10 honorable mention guard if I am not mistaken.

i'm not saying there's not exceptions to the rule... and winning is fricking fun, so yeah, i get why they stay.... get paid, play a lot, and win a bunch... why would you leave?

but IN GENERAL, that's how it is now...
