Kelly had one move: rule like a distant dictator. It worked at Notre Dame because he could out-recruit the region, but even then, he’d get exposed the second he ran into elite speed.
He clearly saw Coach O stumble into a ring and figured a "professional" like him could sleepwalk to a title at LSU. He thought the brand would do the heavy lifting for him. Two things killed that plan:
1. He and Scott Woodward completely whiffed on NIL and the Portal. You can’t pull the "my way or the highway" act when players have options and leverage.
2.: He realized quickly that LSU isn't a "set it and forget it" program. It requires a grind he wasn't ready for.
With that massive buyout, he had zero incentive to adapt. He just dug in his heels. Whether he thought he was untouchable or he was actually trying to get fired, it doesn't matter. The timing worked out for us—we’re in a much better spot long-term now. So, the fat, drunk, prick at least did us a solid there

Spends 24 hours/day recruiting while spending time with his family. He is so good that he added extra hours to the day.

To be fair to LSU, there is not a “set it and forget it” program in the country anymore.
Kelly was just a lazy piece of shite and hoped it worked.

The biggest thing I love about Kiffin is the same reason I hated playing him,
Me too. You knew he was going to takes risks, go for 4th downs, etc.. but it was never more evident as this past year that Ole Miss was so much better coached than we were. He took a D2 QB and whipped us. We had a preseason Heisman candidate that looked lost. I would have liked to have seen what Kiffin could have done with Nuss. He probably would have made him the #1 pick. Kelly cost Nuss millions. Frick that guy!

It’s sad that his legacy is ruined and the only thing anyone will remember is him bending LSU over for a payday.
Ruined his legacy? He will be in the College Football Hall of Fame. He was 34-14 and 19-10 SEC at LSU. That's Hall of Fame level and combine it with 297 overall wins and he is a undoubtedly in the Hall. Notre Dame also had 21 wins stripped by the NCAA due to a student trainer taking exams for a few players. This did not involve Kelly or any coaches. Only people like you who are miffed that he wasn't as successsful as you wished at LSU will only remember the losses.

Many here hate Brian Kelly and say bring back Ed Orgeron. Kelly is a very good coach (not very liked), but nonetheless a very good coach, he was a bad fit for LSU, the fake accent backfired tremendously. Orgeron hit lightning in a bottle much like Larry Coker and Gene Chizik. Unless Kelly doesn't want to coach anymore he will probably find another job, Orgeron has his sights set high and will probably need to lower them

I'd agree with this when he was at ND but he didn't try at LSU. It was clear on gameday that he was not involved in game planning and had zero clue what the strategy was. This is why he was always yelling "WHAT ARE WE DOING!!"

It’s a stark contrast.
You could even say Kiffin is the Tony Stark of CFB. Wealthy, eccentric, genius, playboy.

No I think he realized winning at Ole Miss without top notch recruiting, but by coaching. It only fueled his fire to come to LSU so to combine top notch recruiting and his vision of coaching, it’s just different. He was young and immature at USC, would have eventually become content. Tenn just wanted to be in the SEC not the right fit. Ole Miss I think he believed he maxed out. LSU he saw Les which he surely thought he’s the better Coach, O is his friend, knows what he is and said this is my chance. Alabama whomever will always be in the shadow of Saban. Here at LSU he knows he’s got it all and he can do his way. IT’S JUST DIFFERENT

I think he has always been a hard driving recruiter. Now he has the resources and commitment behind him. Not that Ole Miss doesn't have commitment but this is a whole new level of resources. He can get them on campus and walk them out to a 102,000 seat stadium, show off elite facilities, be in a state that has the most NFL talent per capita in the country, serious continuous NIL behind him, etc etc. That has to get him pretty excited and motivated. He knows if Saban, Miles, O won here. He can win here in this environment.

BK deserves every shot he gets in threads like this or Lane trolling him. Guy absolutely bent LSU over and didn't give one frick.
As to BK, I really think he came to LSU feeling good and he felt even with the expectations, thought recruiting and wins on the field would be easy. That first season felt promising, but we didn't really see much improvement over the next 2 seasons due to issues on the defensive side and then the offensive side. Promoting Joe Sloan was a disaster and then when the 4th season started in a downward spiral with the silence as to the degree of the Nuss injury and his anger attacking a sports writer told me he was frustrated, things were not going his way and he was mentally checking out. The A&M game was an embarrassment, one of the worst ever on our field. At that point, he could have said, "you know folks, I feel like I owe it to the University to resign after that performance" But no, he figured I have a long term contract, will continue at the same pace, that pay check will continue coming in. He was not going to resign, he was content to be half assed in his approach, was just cruising along with LSU's money. He had to know he was in trouble, but I don't think he cared. I know part of his settlement he was to try and look for another job, but that is a joke, he will be sitting on the couch, watching TV, never to coach again. Don't you find it odd we have not heard a word from him anywhere since his firing?

Out of curiosity, was Lane known as a guy that loved recruiting before coming here?

I often say, Coaches and Players, many times, it’s the off the field items that gets them.
As for Lane, he has a brand he can push. LSU Football with NC, Heisman Trophy Winners, LSU Woman’s Basketball and 2 out of three years LSU Baseball NC. Kids in sports follow a college, not just their selective sport.
I’ve said before, LSU has money people, go into a Tiger Stadium Suite, I’ve been in a number. Those people want a winning program, they spend the money.
Lane knows he can win a NC at LSU. Name another school Les and O could win a NC at besides LSU?
