Staff should take a good look at Chasen Hines at defensive line again

A great player and very athletic for the offensive line. I would expect the staff to look at him again on the defensive line. He was recruited to play there.
Might be able to play a 4 or five technique. Giving us that added depth we need.

That's debatable.

If I remember correctly he was recruited as an offensive guard but he decided he wanted to play defense and he almost decommited (and was flirting with Texas maybe?) until we told him he would get his chance on defense.

I disagree. We've had enough issues along the offensive line that taking one of the most promising members away is not a viable strategy.
I understand that he can help on the D Line, but he's already proven to be one of the 5 best on the O Line.
I also don't think that the marginal loss on the O-Line would be offset by the marginal gain on the D-Line if we moved him there.

We are IF Kardell Thomas is ready to play day one, and Ed Ingram really is back (and in shape) and we have a tackle to replace Deculous and we can slide him down to guard. Then we can move Heinz back to DT.
Otherwise, we would be one injury away from playing a slightly overweight, albeit extremely talented, true freshman in the SEC.

If Ingram comes back, which looks likely I don’t disagree. He was very good at Guard however. Should have a lot of depth to make the right decision either way.

I think if Ingram does indeed come back there's a distinct possibility they consider the move back at least to DLine.

This. If Ingram comes back and Rosenthal or Wire pan out at tackle, then I think you move Hines back to defense knowing that you have experience and depth at OG.

some of those issues were caused by injuries (and Ingram's suspension) and our Line was playing different guys every week. it looks to me like, with Ingram returning, we will have too many guards and we may be able to use the help more on the DL.
but, defer to the coaches and am glad that's their decision.

Hines was really good at guard, but if he is better on the defensive line then I'm all for it.

Magee, Campbell, Lewis, Deculus, Thomas, and Bradford. That's a solid 2 deep with two talented true freshmen on the bench if needed.

The entire offensive line, get it?

Hines, Wire and Rosenthal are all talented and have potential along the offensive line. I want to see some tackles start to stand out. I hope that I can go to the spring game this April.

Our guards weren't much of a problem last year.
Our guards and center were amazing, but our tackles were awful, which are the most important guys in the passing game.

Hine’s has displayed good technique and ability on the OL and was more highly rated there. The O l needs more help at this point than DL and I hope Hines stays there and continues to develop. A really good OL can mask lots of offensive problems and make good offense great

Both can move inside if Rosenthal or Wire can develop into tackles.
I would really like to see Rosenthal make a big jump this year and lock down LT. I know that's asking a lot, but if he can do that then we can play either Charles or Deculus at RT and move the other to G.

Hines and Rosenthal were always going to play offense. Coach O said they could play defense to get them on campus. Same thing he just did with Lee. Told him he could play offense, but will most likely end up at OLB.
