Some interesting info on Cenac’s recruitment

Mazi Mosley and Matthew Gilhool, both top 100 commits for LSU’s 2025 class, are really good friends to Chris Cenac (LSU’s remaining top target). Both Mosley and Gilhool were his teammates at the NBAPA top 100 camp over the summer where Cenac won MVP. Mosley also played with him at Team USA’s camp this summer.
Matthew Brune of On3 reports that they text him often and along with all of the coaches are staying in his ear during this recruitment. While Mosley and Gilhool are top 100 recruits and talented in their own rights, both were chess pieces in Cenac’s recruitment.
It’s also a new development that Cy Merrett, unranked SG out of Link Academy will be visiting with his teammate Cenac for the LSU-Bama game. Scarborough reports that his stock is on the rise and that we might offer him during his visit.
It’s already been stated that LSU is willing to compete with the big dogs in NIL for Cenac but it seems like McMahon is trying to get the upper hand on the relationship front also.
Let’s see how the visit goes in two weeks

Cy Merrett
Out of New Orleans , has offers from. Louisiana Tech and San Jose State.
If it helps land Cenac , offer him a scholarship.

Offer whatever it takes and get LSU Basketball back on the map. It is the only current dark spot on an otherwise bright athletic program.

Cenac is pretty monumental for our program moving forward. Proves we can land the truly big fish

That's interesting. Thanks for the info.
Seemed like his role was a wing or swingman at St. Aug last year.

So if he commits, how many of you would still want CMM gone and risk losing this class? I'll hang up and listen...

We've been landing the big fish ever since Dale got us rolling.
LSU basketball has never CONSISTENTLY had a talent problem, when we aren't any good it's predominantly a coaching problem.

Not to say that Cenac isn’t a big get… but let’s not make him out to be Cooper Flagg… he just really blew up in the past year or so…

You’re right. If Wade was here we would’ve gotten Ace Bailey and Cooper Flagg. Also would’ve gotten John’s Broome to transfer here and we would’ve won it all the last 2 years over UConn

Huh? Pretty sure I didn’t mention Wade at all.
Just stated a fact and not to expect this guy to be Shaq if he shows up.

You’re just being negative about men’s BBall being in a great spot for a top 10 player. If LSU men’s basketball fans can’t be excited for landing a top 10 talent then WTF

Dude… what’s your deal?
Not being negative lol
No one said don’t be excited. Someone actually said “monumental “- which is a bit of an overstatement, don’t you think?

Well, yeah, he was playing on a team full of All-Stars

McMahon has not landed a single big fish yet. He's had a handful of pretty highly rated guys, but no 5-star or anything like that. This is what I was referring to.
He's recruited plenty of 3/4 year program guys, but has yet to probably land that NBA kid who will only be here a year maybe 2. Those are the most difficult recruitments

I mean I really don’t think monumental is an overstatement.. he’d be the 2nd highest rated HS kid LSU basketball has ever signed behind Ben Simmons

Rudy Macklin
Kenny Higgs
Hi C Carter
John Williams
Jerry Reynolds
Jamie Brandon
CJ
Shaq
Stanley Roberts
Randy Livingston
Tito Horford
Stromile Swift
Big Baby
All those guys were as highly or more highly recruited than Cenac. And I'm positive I've left off more.
Hell, Fess Irvin was a SUPERSTAR coming out of HS.
This isn't a knock on McMahon, even though I KNOW we should have kept Wade, and dealt with the fallout. He is recruiting very well. He just has to start winning NOW.
I'm rooting like hell to get Cenac in this class, and I will be thrilled to forget all about the general once McMahon wins as consistently (or better) than he did.

You're completely right. I wasn't necessarily including McMahon in this discussion. If he lands Cenac though, I think he's on his way.
It's not terribly hard to recruit young black males (the target recruiting demographic) to LSU.
I don't think even our fans understand how powerful that brand is nationwide.
I live in VB, VA and constantly get LSU shout-outs whenever I wear my LSU caps or polos.

247 rankings for highest raed recruits only go back about 20 years

Ok. I didn't realize that. Stromile and Big baby were elite recruits though.
