How fast would that theoretically make his 40 if 200 meters = 218.7 yards?
3.983, if you use the exact yardage of 218.723
bo jackson ran a 4.12..

Errr, I'm guessing that isn't how you do it then? Right? That can't be.

Well, you have to take in the fact that he was already at full speed for the last 178 yards. Timing 40's includes time it takes to accelerate to top speed. So you can't simply take and divide and get an answer. Still real impressive and very fast either way

Wonder why they didn't give him the final leg

I think he wins if he was on an outer lane. His size is not going to make running an inside lane as efficient. Great run nonetheless.

Posted by Message smash williams So....Leonard Fournette recently ran a 21.78 in the 200m. I know a few recruiting analyst were saying he lacks elite speed, I think Rivals Mike Farrell was one. I remember Espns Tom Luginbill saying he was a Gurley/Marshall combo, referencing he had both size and breakaway speed.
He has elite speed, but these guys should know better than to judge a young guy that hasn't even had a chance to fully develop and get into a college football conditioning program, on whether he has elite speed. A lot of guys who ran 4.6 in highschool will run 4.4 by the time they leave college, with proper conditioning and training. Fournette is in that 4.4-4.3 range already.

You're the second person to ask about 40 times and the answer is basically just that he's fast.
You can't divide by slightly >5 and get it because the intervals aren't correct.

Even if you take the first 40 yards it would not equate bc it is a different run.
However, it is still impressive to see how fast a human can cover 40 yards, especially if u can compare dead stop to rolling start times.
My know-it-all post of the day.

Still very very fast.
This guy IS an athletic freak!
He seems to actually be a better 200m sprinter than a 100m (and he is a good 100m guy!). Once he gets that big body going, look out! That is what is even more impressive. Most elite high school track sprinters are in the 170 lb range, very wiry and lean. LF is 220+ and doin it! Anybody 200 lbs or more putting up good sprint times in high school really impresses me.

this time must be wrong. lil nicky said LF was a linebacker. he can't be that fast.

That's his average 40 yrd time throughout the whole race. Like I said previously, you gotta look at the intervals to make better sense of everything.
I'd say he runs in the low 4.4s, maybe breaking into the 4.3s

He's a ridiculous athlete. At 235 lbs he should not be able to be so fast.
Being fast isn't the issue...what is so astounding is carrying that much muscle at longer distances (200m). Usually that where guys start really thinning out.
He is amazing and last time I checked, he won't need to make many runs over 100m!

Edit: here's a video of the race It's almost comical how a guy that huge moves on the 2nd leg.
LOL at the stretch run and the announcers..."who is that on the outside?"..."I don't know" They couldn't identify whitey's team.

Theoretically, the 2nd leg of a 4x1 can carry the baton for the greatest distance if exchanges are optimized. This is a fairly common practice in high school where the best guy on a relay may be significantly better than the 4th best guy. Essentially, they are banking on Fournette's final 5-9m when he is tired being faster than what the two legs on either side of him could run if the distances were equally allocated. Mostly, I think it is a mental thing for high schoolers. "Awwww yea, we got Leonard carrying for 110m. It's over." Might inspire everyone else to push a little bit harder.

When I was in HS I was one of the fastest in the state and I ran the 2nd leg of all the relays.
I loved being in lane 1 behind everyone and finishing the leg with my team in 1st.

4.356 i think based on his 200m, not accounting for the time it takes to accelerate. he's a 4.4-4.5 guy at 230 lbs realistically.

he is probably a 4.5 guy. it is very, very difficult to catch a 4.5 guy from bdhind. hill ran a 4.67 at combine and he hardly ever got caught from behind. LF, as a complete back, is two levels above hill. that is very freightening for the rest of the SEC.
