I don’t think it would be to appease Shaq. We need more bigs. It gets tough when Days and Emmitt are both in foul trouble. Cooper might have played like 10 minutes total this year. Shareef at the least would bring a lot of athleticism and a shot blocker that could come off the bench. A second unit of Manning (when he returns) Hyatt finding his shot as of late and Shareef could be great. Also let’s not forget 6’7 wing Josh Leblanc is rumored to eligible in the second half of the season.

That would gives us a 9 man rotation. We’ve been running 7 lately and that won’t hold up all the way into the tourney.

I'd say yes, but if you do I would think you're going to let Courtese Cooper go to make room for him.

How so?

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but by my count LSU currently has one open scholarship to give. Plus, whatever scholarships are made available by any or all of Smart, Williams, Watford leaving after this season, right?

Currently there are two open scholarships on this year's team, right? One unused and one vacated by the JC transfer, Deshawn Thomas, who never played for LSU and has entered the transfer portal.

Then you have three scholarship seniors: Graves, Mays and Taylor.

Of those 5, 4 have been filled: 3 freshman signees and the transfer, Leblanc. I know LSU is after at least 1 more signee (and likely others). But even still, that would leave 1 to 3 additional scholarships from the early entries. Unless......Smart, Williams and/or Watford would all return for next season

4-5 star talent with size who doesn't need a scholly? Absolutely!

Again, if he’s better than any other option to take that scholarship, you take him. My argument was if there is another option that is more talented, you don’t turn them down to take this kid just because of Shaq.

Yea, I don't see the connection to Cooper. You either take him or you don't. Has nothing to do with Cooper.

And if Wade is willing to take a flier on players like Deshawn Thomas, then giving Shareef a chance is a no-brainer.

Did we go after him hard during his original recruitment? We all know about the heart condition but if you can bring him in, he sits for a whole year under Wade & Co I think there is a good chance you get a good player(If healthy).

We had an open scholarship Fall 2019 that Leblanc will fill assuming he does sign for spring 2020 semester. Deshawn Thomas leaving after Fall 2019 leaves another open scholarship for a potential O'Neal signing.

Well, he was on the bench with the team on Tuesday and in the huddle during timeouts. So I suspect he (Leblanc) is on the team and, perhaps, practicing with them now that school is back in session.

It would be worth the scholly to have shaq going crazy at a bunch of games all the time.

Shaq is not Lebron. He would be excited to see his son at LSU, but would be more dignified.

Shaq can pay his way as walk on. We need the scholarship for better players

I’m confused, has anyone confirmed he is transferring from UCLA? Or are we assuming he will transfer here since he hasn’t gotten many minutes this year?

Jon Rothenstein tweeted that he is transferring

Serious question... How common/accepted a practice is it for a school to recruit someone to play without a scholarship offer? Specifically, for kids of "wealthy" families is this a common occurrence?

I suspect Leblanc is on the team as well, but it would be nice to see it confirmed by the school.

I'm pretty sure he's been on the LSU bench during games this year.

We cannot assume or take Shaq for granted, but it could be very likely he would communicate this if Shareef is interested in LSU.

Do we know if he even has any interest in LSU?

True, but I feel like there are limitations on the workload of walk-ons. I could certainly be wrong, though.

We have lesser players than him on scholarship.

Get what your saying but look at from a kids point of view. Would you like to be compared to your dad your whole time on campus?
