Was WR a big "need"?

LSU has it's three starters from the final two games returning (Boutte, Moore, Jenkins). Two others who have experience: Palmer and Kirklin. Plus FIVE pretty highly rated freshman coming in.

We don't have a #2 receiver going into the season. I'd call that a major need. Pun intended :P

We don’t have a #1 QB going into the season either, would you call that a need?

It was equal need

Not sure they had a player at WR that they were quite as familiar & comfortable with taking

Both were needs for sure. Cross your fingers someone steps up at WR to fill that #2 role

I would phrase it more, WR was less of a concern than safety, just based on what was already on the roster.

While I felt good about the safety position, a lot of that was on potential. Burns (who should have been LSU all the way, frankly) is more of a sure thing than some of our other options, IMHO.

How much depth do we really need?
All of these guys below are freshmen except for Ward and we're bringing in another 5 star at safety for 2022.

Ward
Toles
Langlois
Ryan
Davis

If we were bringing in another experienced guy like Mike Jones then I would think that makes more sense....but Burns is an unproven freshman like the rest of our depth chart.

They want to avoid playing tFr if they can.

Burns is not a true freshmen. Played in 6 games last season.

Experience is experience. Game speed, game strength, college weight room & practices. It matters

I actually agree with you in a sense. It’s an unpopular opinion cuz the kid is from here but I doubt he ever plays meaningful snaps at LSU. IMO, He’s not leaving UGA cuz a spot at LSU magically opened up, he’s leaving cuz he wasn’t gonna play there. If he wasn’t gonna play there, then I have a hard time believing that he will beat out Ward, Ryan and Davis.

Maybe down the road he can win the FS spot once Ward leaves?

I kinda agree.

I don't love using it on burns.
