The bottom line with Turner is: you either take him or play against him

He was going somewhere in the SEC, might as well be LSU

We can use all the elite speed we can get

good speed, not elite

average height, rail skinny with lite frame; general strength concerns

average footwork; odd gait; lacks quickness and agility

I'll take kids from Destrehan, Karr, St. Aug - and that's just a few in the NOLA area. Duke Riley might be the best player we've taken from Curtis and we barely took him. The last time we took a WR in the Curtis offense that lacked production we ended up with a 5-star that underwhelmed

hopefully I'm wrong about this kid

A sub 10.5 is elite in my opinion for a junior in high school. What do you consider elite then?

Turner is listed as 6'1 150.
10.59 100m

Devonta Smith was 6'1 160 coming out of HS.
10.67 100m

I'm confident in our scouting and S&C program's ability to add good bulk to the athletes.

This is all fun to read. The positive and the negative stuff, right?

But I'm sold on the staff. And I say that, being a guy that was banned for two years after my Miles-bashing went overboard.

But can y'all not see the wherewithal & balance that this staff has? There is direction and confidence.

And YES, there are going to be 5 stars from texas and Louisiana that LSU will miss on.....just like there are Tennessee players that will opt for us over the Vols....same with NC, GA, FL, and up north too.
But this staff has the ability to do senior evals, they are smart and have plans B, C, D and so on.

If there is a guy that is offered, then Kelly can see a place for him here.

I'd sit back, relax, and watch the river roll.

I get your point but Turner isn’t 6’1

Just going off of 247 and On3. HUDL and Rivals lists him as 6'2.

ESPN lists him at 6'0, but also has his weight at 170.

Funny, DeVonta Smith was almost the exact same size back in 2017, but he could also fly. DeVonta is still pretty skinny but seems to have done well for himself in CFB and NFL...

legit clueless which is why I ask because I'm not from LA, but max preps shows turner only had 25 receptions last year for 519 and 6 TD's in 13 games. Assuming that's accurate, is that because of Curtis's offense or something? Those numbers combined with most services having him rated so low is probably what's difficult for folks to grasps.

Curtis has always run a “run heavy” offense. That’s why another poster mentioned Malichi Dupre as a “cautionary tale”..in this case, we have to trust our coach’s evaluation

figures lie and liars figure

If you watch the tape between these two there is no comparison in terms of skill and athletic traits

agree but let's keep in mind that WR recruiting was probably their weakest area when Hankton was at UGA, which is why they're having to take multiple portal WRs

I'm not trying to be negative about Hankton but let's see how it goes. He's missed on a lot of top targets. That said, I'm never collectively worried about LSU WRs (at least not yet)

I was responding to your quote on size. You changed the narrative to skill.

Of course Devonta is better. He was a 4/5 star. Measurables are similar. Turner is a low 4 star, but the staff thought he had ability they can work with.

Either way he doesn't have to be an immediate impact player. The current team is deep at WR and has 3 new FR (Sampson, Parker, Jalen Brown) that are all starter quality. Transfer Anderson is a soph.

The 24' class also has Billiot whose a big body and JoJo Stone. The WR position is deep so Turner would have ample time to develop.

I'm very high on turner.

Said he will for sure need a year or two to gain weight. He is a stick.

no narrative change, I was pretty clear as to my concerns about Turner's combination of size and athletic traits

because of Curtis's offense or something?

Curtis has been running the exact same offense for 60 years. They want to run the ball 40 times for 500 yds. every game. They lull you to sleep with the run, and then throw a quick slant that will go for 40 yds. 2 back, split set. When your defense is tired, someone forgets an assignment and the QB goes for 25 yds. Most of these kids have been playing with one another, running the same offense since the 3rd grade.
If they get behind and have to rely on the pass they're in trouble.

Wasn't uncommon for JT to dress 85-100 kids to intimidate the opposition. I played vs. Curtis in 82 and 83, when they were single A. My school (St. Martin's) maybe dressed out 30 kids as 6 or 7 of our team when both ways. Curtis easily had 3-4 deep at each position.

watch these offensive comparisons over the decades.
