Serious question, D. Lee

I hate people asking insiders information, but even if not an insider is anyone else speculating that D Lee might actually play safety? I know we're not done recruiting, but taking that extra wide receiver over a S has me wondering. Any rumblings?

I think this is best on recruiting board, but definitely overlap.

No inside info but everything I've read is staff would prefer he plays defense but he wants to be a WR.

He 100% needs to become an OLB/Safety hybrid like Jacoby. That position is of growing importance in the NCAA and NFL with these spreads and RPOs. You need very athletic OLBs that can cover and have ball skills.

Not sure if Pelini will use that as much in the 4/3 though.

We didn’t take an “extra” receiver over a S.

He wants to be a receiver, the staff wants him at safety. O honored his word and is trying him at receiver.

LSU had 2 WR commits that flipped on ESD. They have gotten 1 commitment since. How on earth is -1 considered an "extra"?

This has nothing to do with Devonta Lee. We only took two receivers last year. We should be taking three at a minimum EVERY year.

We loaded up at defensive back last year, signing five. So we slightly oversigned DBs and undersigned wide receivers last year. The only reason to move Lee is if that's his better position.

His cousin said several times on 247 Lee is switching to defense. Said he wanted to try WR first but is now switching

Have seen that.
He's a LB imo. Don't see enough fluidity to play S. Maybe that hybrid role of S/LB if it is a part of the defense

Adams plays safety too, some teams recruited him as a safety and he apparently is a good one.

I assume Adams will be a wr at LSU, but both he and Lee have the skills to play on either side of the ball.

Last I had read is they asked Lee last year to play safety and he wanted to stay at wide out. Maybe the depth chart has changed that. I would think Lee finds the field faster at safety, not because he cant play wide out but because of the numbers.

If he doesn't see field at WR he either transfers or listens to LSU staff and give d a shot at LB/S type player

This spring would be the time to at least try it with the depth lost to the draft otherwise this LB class coming in is going to start making moves in August

Lee said himself he's going into spring as a WR. I think it's a 50/50 chance he changes positions. I think he can be a really good WR so give him a chance.

He could be our version of Anquan Boldin or David Boston.

I spoke to someone that's close with him. I know the guy well. His son is actually being recruited by LSU. He told me in order for D. Lee to commit they promised him a shot at WR because that's what he wanted to play. Bama told him he would not be a WR. It looks like to me they are doing everything to give him that shot.

Pretty positive I saw on here, that him and his family said/decided its best that he moves back to defense.
