Another LA kid, son of former MLB player, Ben Sheets, leaves the state. He is rated the No. 7 player in LA. Thanks again CPM! Time to go.

From what i am told by numerous parents in the Cenla area....LSU is not offering a full scholarship like the out of state colleges are...this is why they are leaving going to other schools to play ball TFWIW

Full scholarships are used on the out of state pitchers. I don’t like it either but it is what it is.

Are you aware that Division 1 Baseball programs only have 11.7 full scholarships available to give to 27 guys each year right? Roster limit is 35 which makes spreading the money even more difficult relative to trying to field a high end roster.

It's impossible to offer many full scholarships to kids because you are trying to squeeze that money over a lot of kids.

Over the last 7-8 years I have talked to several in state kids that have gone out of state or other in state schools to play. Several are in the minors now. What almost all said was that LSU only offered TOPS so they went elsewhere.

I wish they would let baseball offer more full rides.

LSU does not offer full ride- started with Bertman-
another reason why Auburn is in last place
LSU looks for the tops guy in state
also that is why vandy is getting top players - they look for the player that can meet their requirements to get full tuition - about $75,000 a year
this is the way LSU has remained a top program over the years
give LSU some credit!

Relax. Just because he has the same last name, that doesn’t mean he is Ben.

I think it is time for Paul to retire/move on for other reasons.

This is the real problem. A 35-man roster limit this year, still only 11.7 scholarships. bullshite.

Hit my first stand up double against Ben Sheets at the old park on the corner of 73 and Airline. I think we were in first grade.

So how much financial aid did CPM offer you after that feat?

I am mentally exhausted being a fan of Paul Maineri's program. It's disheartening.

You guys do know that Ben went to NLU right? So, if he wasn’t good enough for Bertman, why would we expect his son to be good enough for LSU now? He may be good, just saying it’s not a given.

I know the boys Grandfather on the mother side. He is the most unathletic banker I have ever seen.

Ben made close to $50 million in his career. I can't imagine scholarship money being the deciding factor.
