Warrick Dunn has done a ton for the BR community and there is a lot of emotional connection to him. He is an outlier.

Earlier today, someone who follows recruiting a lot more than I do put it to me like this: Fournette just secured a better life for his family. If he never goes to the NFL, things will still be easier for them in Louisiana. I think there is some truth to that. Not saying Speed Noil or Willis' family will be outcast, but not as many are going to bend over backwards for them either.

Yeah. What "opportunities" exist in Louisiana that can't be had in any other state?

for former athletes it's pretty easy to land a job in sales because companies know clients will want to associate with them. The don't have that same appeal 5 states over.

Ruffin Rodrigue on instate recruitingHe basically said if you want to get out of the state thats your right but you're not going to be able to come back and get a job. You better not get hurt and you better make it in the NFL (which stands for not for long) because you can't come back thats the way it is. He said you better want to live in Gainseville or Tuscaloosa. Cited Chase Clement who got a job at a construction company. On the other end cited a friend of his who went to A&M and couldn't get a job back in Louisiana. Made a joke saying "I'm and idiot and I run one of the best restaurants in the area".

shite man Jake Tompkins a former pitcher got a kush job as a medical sales rep after a brief stint in the pros.

I've come across countless lesser known players that got hooked up with jobs locally. It also helps out when you want to break into coaching collegiality or starting out on the high school level.

Yea.. Warrick Dunn is a prime example

Warrick Dunn actually made it in the NFL which was one of the OP's caveats. Also, he runs a foundation that helps others. This is the exception. The question is without the NFL, would he have the foundation?

Basically said, guys who stay in state will be taken care of after football. You go elsewhere, don't expect to come back and be accepted with open arms in LA after football career is over. You stay in state and people will look out for you forever.

All very true, but not many 18 year olds are considering what they're going to do at 35. They think they'll make millions in the League, if they think about it at all.

Every situation is different, but in general his argument has some validity.

It is especially true for those players from Louisiana that don't end up being NFL stars.

Truth be told, this argument has been had on here probably 50 times and is nothing new.

So if Matt Mauck wanted a job in Louisiana with an LSU-friendly company, could he get one?

So an LSU guy goes up against a UGA guy in Atlanta and has a better shot?

having coached high schoolers who did both (stayed in state at LSU and went out of state), RR is absolutely correct, from my experience

they are hedging their bets on their sons NFL prospects. Neiter will get a degree from their respective school. Still can't get my head around Willis to UF.

They will have a losing record again next year with getting drubbed by LSU, Bama, and FSU. add in losses to UGA, USC, and probably UT. Muschamp fired. But hey April Justin loves how he has built that program. Right!?

I really don't understand it either. But then again, I was born and raised an LSU fan.

Job Opportunities are "created" in some cases for those who represent their in state universities...I personnally know of 3 between both LSU and Tulane...It matters, the problem is, you are talking about high level connections...Unfortunately most of these young men and families "don't know what they don't know" so I can see why they may not factor this at the time of their decision...

well i'll say if he opened his own dental practice here, he'd get a shite ton of business just because of who he is and what he did.

LA and BR fondness of Dunn also has a lot to do with the murder of his mother.
It's really an outlier case.

Dentist offices would be fighting over Mauck if he moved here. Yes

Dunn also played in the NFL for like 10 years and was a well known player. He doesn't need a job.

I think so too. But he's not from Louisiana.
