Yeah, a lot of weird down votes lately. Obviously, other schools who are so jealous of us all they can do is stare at our blogs all day. Remember, people hating you is a sign of respect

Haha yes you are right, and someone even proved your point!

Thanks for the reply
I know the scoring and how the selection committee goes about it just bc I've followed LSU/USA gymnastics for a good while now. I was just always curious as to the elite and level 10 stuff. Wasn't sure if one of those were considered better than the other.
There it is. Didn't realize elite was the the term for Olympic and championship levels. I thought those were in a class of their own.
My post made it seem like I was hating on Lauri. I was just using her as an example bc thats who popped in my head as one of the youngest of recent Olympics.

When it comes to the elite world (Olympic and World Championship level) At least in the United States, gymnasts have to qualify for that level of competition by doing a qualifier and showing compulsory (proof of mastery of all the required basic skills that make up a routine) and optional (additional high level skills that you have learned and plan to compete) skills

That’s why someone like Laurie Hernandez at 16 got to represent the USA in Rio

Is there any word on Sami and Haleigh's injury status?

I read an article this morning about it being Sami’s elbow. Not sure how true that is…

Where they were icing Haleigh’s foot on the broadcast (she was standing on the ice pack) you would imagine it has something to do with her plantar fascia ligament. As someone mentioned on the other thread, you can clearly see her say “it pooped, i heard a pop.” If that’s what it is, it might just be a few weeks until we see her again. Even if she did tear it, most times surgery isn’t required. Fingers crossed on a speed recovery regardless!

Just finished rewatching the meet. I commend Jay for accepting the first 5 floor scores and not risk using Desiderio. It was clear that the team had no momentum after bars. Beam had no energy at all. It seemed like they were just trying to get through floor (and end the meet). This type of body language sort of proved Jay’s point in his interview when he mentioned the team not having a leader. But I’m confident they’ll pull it together. If Haleigh and Sami do miss extended time, that opens up two spots in the bars lineup. I can easily see Arenas, Brock, Finnegan, and Tatum battling for those spots. This could be valuable experience for them. Also, it was really hard for me to watch the SEC vault co-champion not perform on vault (although I agree with the lineup).

LSU posted a video today and it was Kai talking to the team. Maybe she will be the one to stand up and be the vocal leader they need.

With that being said, from what I’ve seen the last couple seasons, both with regards to in the gym at practices and on the sidelines at meets, I see Kai Rivers stepping into that role.
Not going to say I told you so but prior to the meet, I said something exactly like this along those lines about Kai. Girl’s got what it takes: in and out of the gym, in and out of the lineups, both vocally and performance wise

I saw Haleigh shared on tik tok she will be out for a few weeks due to plantar fasciitis.
Posted on 1/9/22 at 9:14 am to Twz
Whew. So happy it’s not severe. I’ve had plantar fasciitis before and it wasn’t that bad. Had to stretch my foot a lot. A tennis ball will be her best friend.

For Sami I haven’t heard anything but I rewatched the meet this morning and during floor she used both hands to help KJ get the stick grown out of her hair (LOL) and there’s no sign of a brace on her so maybe it’s not too bad?? Compared to other injuries where the gymnast can’t return to the floor or comes out with a sling or something like that….

Plantar fasciitis is not something that happens in an instant, though. I thought she injured herself during warmups, not just that she was having a flare up and decided to play it safe. You don’t injure yourself into having that. I’m a bit confused on that.
As for Sami, it is possible that whatever happened just really hurt but turned out to be no big deal. We’ve all stubbed a toe and swore we were done for only to be fine an hour later.

You are correct. I hurt mine when I ran track back in high school. It first started out as just my heel hurting and I was able to push through it. Then one day I had stabbing pain before a meet and ended up going to the hospital. Rest, ice, and using the tennis ball helped out a lot. I think I may have been out 3-4 weeks back then. Of course technology is more advanced now and she may be able to come back sooner than I did.

I am basically ravenous for any news about Haleigh/Sami. Anyone hears anything definitive - I saw that Haleigh posted what appeared to be a not-insubstantial on her foot on tik Tok related to the plantar fascia issue, but haven’t really seen anything on Sami other than conjecture.

Here is a message I got after the meet from a friend of mine who know Sami well:
“Sami is fine. I talked to her after and it was a forearm injury but it was slight.”

On insta haleigh posted that her foot was better than expected or something along those lines but she wasn't sure how long she would be out. Guess it’s a wait and see type injury?
