Truthfully the only two events I feel good about are vault and floor right now. Vault has steadily improved throughout the year and they are all very quality vaults 1-6. Floor finally got the shot in the arm it needed when we got Kiya back although I will be holding my breath on Bryant's dismount until the year wraps up.
I feel our issues on bars aren't fixable by the semi finals, the form isn't gonna automatically change over night sometime within the next two weeks. They aren't going to fix dismount issues that have been there all year, they are what they are at this point. Best we can hope for is we hit our handstands and try to maximize our scores as much we can.
Beam can actually be much much better if they hit but they have been shaky throughout the year and all of post season so far. I just don't feel confident at this point based off what I saw at SEC's and both meets at regionals. Too many routines with checks or major breaks. LSU was extremely fortunate to move on with those scores which was absurd in all honesty. Can they put it all together and kill it? Sure, but I haven't seen anything to make me think that so far so hoping for the best. They can't compete tentatively next Friday, it has to be all attack.
The issues with routine construction won't be fixed until the offseason, its a bit too late for all that unfortunately. LSU is still capable of doing well next weekend but this is it, hit or go home.

My question is why have they been so shaky on beam? I know I keep asking, but I can’t figure it out (and I come back to this, it’s essentially lineup
Spots 2,5, and 6 in terms of general consistency and spot 3 in terms of a decline over the season). I think for spot 5 it is a reps issue, for 6 possibly also? But if they have been so shaky for those reasons, then maybe try to get more consistency with others? As for 2, I just think that routine has been wildly inconsistent over the years - for that reason was that the best choice to continue to stick with, especially this year when, I would have thought, there were more options? And as for spot 3, well...I am unsure why that routine has deteriorated, but would hope that maybe coaching can give her the pep talk she needs to succeed? The talent is there for sure obviously, but man, they are going to have to be killer, especially ending on beam...again.
I also agree with you Tigerbait (and the rest of the gymternet) that that beam rotation score was bonkers, like absolute nonsense (though no one in the meet scored below a 9.825 on beam, and only two scored that low, I think - so it was crazy high all around) That being said, with everyone complaining about ASU being “robbed” - most, if not all of their yfulls scored 9.85 with a medium Sized hop and Elena scored only a 9.875 with superior form and stuck which eats away at that advantage if we’re talking about “overscoring” (not to mention that Kentucky had the tie break on them - which is why it was so crazy to me that their fans kept saying they were robbed, even if LSU had lost, they wouldn’t have gone). I’ll also say that Kentucky could have been lights out on floor and won it...which they also weren’t. So in the end, I think it evened out even though I could barely watch our final routine.

I will give Kiya and Campbell some slack considering they both have been dealing with nagging injuries and have had limited training on beam throughout the season. With that said, the coaches should be helping Kiya out by watering down the difficulty. There is absolutely no reason for her to do the front toss AND the switch half combo. Just adding more room for errors/deductions. Its even more ridiculous considering the kid can't do the reps due to the chronic achilles issues.
Desiderio has been steady as a rock all year until SEC's and the last two meets unfortunately. She needs to step up next weekend.
While part of the problem is our routine construction (unnecessary difficulty) and rhythm. I find LSU has struggled managing their nerves, and the reason I know that is you have many kids bending at the hips and lifting their legs on simple full turns. To be a good beam team, you have to control your emotions/nerves and compete with confidence. we have not done that so far.
Haleigh's biggest issue is confidence right now. I think Desiderio and Durante laying in egg to open the beam rotation in the 2nd round got to her there. Hopefully her toe is healing okay for next weekend. She is very valuable on beam.

Completely agreed, Brock literally had the same exact vault and got scored lower. Alyona did a beautiful 1.5 twist with a small hop forward and gets the same score as the ASU full's with medium hops. LSU was underscored on vault in the regional finals, relative to the other vaults the way they were scoring. No one will talk about that because yea LSU isn't a gymternet favorite.

Changing subjects a little, does anyone know what happened to Courtney Goodrich? Is she still on the team?

Heard during the fall she had opted out unless something changed

Opted out entirely (she was a walk-on)- or just for the season with covid etc

For the year unless she goes into a manager role.
She’s a sweet girl, just don’t see her making a floor lineup with what we have the next couple years but some kids do love this sport and want to do it as long as they can. Nothing wrong with that either.

How many managers is the team allowed to have? I believe Caitlin Smith might be stepping into fill Gracen’s role next season since it seems like she’s a part time manager this year and we’ll also have Anton, Kennedi and Kirby returning next season.
Another totally random thought: The LSU Gymnastics hate on twitter continues surrounding Chae Campbell rotating with us at nationals (people saying they feel bad/sorry for her). And yet: the day Nationals assignments and rotation order was announced, LSU gymnastics was quite quick to release a statement, welcoming her to their team for that weekend and how they look forward to cheering her on and being her host team. Kennedi and Kiya have also both already publicly expressed their excitement for it, as has Jay, complete with his admiration for her as a gymnast and athlete. And yet we’re the team that gets hated on for being fake, stuck up, too much, etc.

she's signed her NLI - unless Washington releases her (why would they), she'd lose a year of eligibility.
Technically, these coaches aren't even supposed to be contacting her at this point.

Never said they were in contact, just a simple observation from social media. That isn't a NCAA Violation
Generally speaking, if an athlete requests a release, most schools are usually good about it.

Also didn’t the coaching situation At UW change after she signed? Could that be an easy way out for her?

NLI states multiple times that you are committing to a program not to a coach..
Maybe gym isn’t as cutthroat as football or basketball but people are just releasing athletes from their obligation at the last minute. Who else is there left for them to recruit this late in the game. Maybe with COVID situation, she can ask for release to be closer to home. LSU is a lot closer to Texas than WA!

Nice pickup for them
Hopefully the BIG 2023 class Jay is talking about on paper comes to fruition. (Konnor, Drayton and Miller are the top kids from what I hear).

Although unlikely, I’m hoping for a Shilese commitment switch from UF to us

Bama is planning on having five 10.0 sv vaults at Nationals per Duckworth. Said they held back a little bit on vault at Regionals.

Didn't they have some kids banged up that they held back in regionals?

I think we are better than bama at full potential, which we haven’t yet shown. Maybe it’s the third time’s the charm for us ...

My only guess is that maybe they let Adams do her Y1.5 again. Gaskins only has a full. But that’s crazy because Adams has fallen on her Y1.5 almost every time she did it. Doggette is capable of the Y1.5 but I don’t think she’s competed it this year.

They have five with graber, Quinn, Olsen, blanco, and waligoria (spelling?). I’m fairly confident Adams will do a full.
There’s a nice tiger tv clip of bailey ferrer. She looks happy! She has turned to body building and hopes to do a competition in the fall.
