Was happy to see easier leap series on beam from Friday’s intrasquad. The team looked great!

I'm pleased so far with what Gnat has done. Some of the changes to routine construction already gives me a lot of hope we are moving in the right direction. This team has a lot of potential and so much talent, especially the young kids. Will be fun to watch it come together.

Shame we won't have Kai this year but I look forward to the other young kids stepping up. I was really hoping we could have used Kai on floor this year as she really would have been big help there. Hopefully Alyona and Ryan continue to progress with their 1.5's on vault, getting those will be big for that event.

I also watched Friday, and the team looks really strong. If they stay healthy, they should definitely compete for a title this year. There is a lot of depth, and I’m not quite sure how you choose a lineup on beam and floor. Bryant and Dunne get most of the chatter of the freshman, but don’t sleep on Elena. I can see her sneaking into the AA this year. Also, Ryan’s 1.5 looks good to go to me. Alyona is still competing the full.

If anyone has any questions in particular, I’ll be happy to answer.

Beam will be difficult to choose a lineup. I think some of the freshmen and sophomores have higher ceilings than some of the upperclassmen but its gonna come down to consistency. I do like some of the easier leap series we have put in. The depth and competition on some of these events will push them to be better.

Alyona is still training a. 1.5 but a clean full from her would be doable. I was kinda expecting 1 or 2 fulls with the rest being 10.0's. The quality of our 10.0 vaults is scary good so I think that event would be fine. K. Ryan has come a long way since last year, I look forward to some big vaults from her. Her 1.5 has gotten better each week this fall.

I honestly haven't slept on Elena because she's gonna be competing on many events for us and definitely know what she's capable of. She looks great, as do Haleigh and Olivia. its nice to see a freshmen class who came in healthy, its night and day from many of our classes over the last 3-4 years. I think coming in healthy is gonna show in their gymnastics early this year.

Side note, am I the only one concerned with how winter sports will survive with the current contact tracing rules? Seems like a recipe for disaster. Football at least, the rosters are big enough to over come that at times but that isn't gonna be the case for some of these other sports.

I am concerned with are college sports going to happen period this winter with the way the US has been trending. I believe Ivy League including gymnastics has been canceled. Are the coaches/athletic department optimistic?

Ivy League has been shutting everything down from the get go. They honestly never had any true intentions of having athletics this year.

They are planning on having a season and competing. No different than the other sports. Will there probably be delay or postponed meet at some point? Probably....

I'm praying some of these vaccines truly do work so we can try to get back to normal in the near future. The contact tracing is specifically the biggest issue right now with sports being able to play.

We are doing a conference only schedule as expected

quote:

"The SEC coaches all came together to talk about 2021 and the necessity to preserve the season," head coach Jay Clark said. "We felt like an SEC only schedule with the two off weekends was the best way to do that. It gives us some wiggle room for any disruptions and still prepares us for postseason. Our team is excited to get back in front of our fans and compete on Friday nights. "

On a positive note, there is still suppose to still be a gym 101 but the details haven't been finalized quite yet. Should know pretty soon.

Interesting that LSU is ranked 6th in CGN’s preseason poll.

Top 5 (in order)
Florida
Oklahoma
Michigan
Utah
UCLA

I would say LSU maybe should have been no less than 4th or 5th with the talent and depth they have. Not sure how UCLA is fifth.

In other news, I listened to Jay Clark on LSU Sixty this afternoon. I really hoped that he would go into depth about his expectations for this upcoming season. He was somewhat optimistic that they’ll have a full season, but I could tell he’s a little worried too. Worth a listen still.

OU at #2 is a bit surprising given the losses. I know OU will be good.... but they sure have. A lot of faith in Kindler manufacturing those scores lost..... You simply just don't replace Nichols. UCLA will go through the same thing losing Ross and those other high scoring seniors.

In the grand scheme of things, none of it matters. If LSU takes the routines they are putting on in the gym right now, and put it in the PMAC, they will be in the top 4 by the end of the year if they stay healthy.

Seniors will provide a lot of leadership and help support many of the events. Jay said they will be heavily relying on the freshmen and sophomore classes for big scores. In particular, we are looking at the freshmen occupying a lot of lineup spots which is why Jay is saying there could be some bumps in the road early. Since there are 8 meets in our schedule, probably only 4 scores will be used for RQS this year.

I think theres gonna be a season but there will likely be an interruption or two given what we are seeing right now from football and basketball. Contact tracing alone is what is causing a significant amount of shut downs. In some cases, teams not getting test results in on time could cause a meet to be postponed.

Mike Smith posted on Twitter earlier today that 101 is in two weeks. Will it be televised?

Normally SECN will stream online but haven't heard anything official about that yet. Just that its suppose to be in the PMAC. Should be able to though.

Looking forward to it, there is so much potential for this years team. They have really progressed a lot in November and continue to grow every week.

I just want to address a couple things you said as/in a general statement/singular response. Knowing that the girls only have 8 meets this season before SEC champs could either help or hurt us, depending on how Jay continues to push and pace them with their training once season starts. With that being said, in years past we saw that by the first or second meet, girls were already heavily taped up and dealing with many nagging injuries, some still recovering from previous injuries from the summer and others dealing with newer more recent nagging pains, which could’ve been attributed to the way DD was pushing them so hard for a national championship. I noticed that some years it wasn’t until mid February that the team finally got their stride and started getting the scores they deserves and began to reach their full potential. I think having significantly less meets will most likely do wonders for our girls bodies in terms of wear and tear, especially for the seniors, and could potentially end up being the reason we come out on top this year, especially with the talent and depth this team has.

One thing to note is that the team right now is significantly healthier than where they were last year. That in itself, IMO will allow them to have a much better start going into the season. The last few years lsu had been trying to play catch up due to very slow starts.

If we can open the year with a 197+ and just improve each week, we will be in good position.

You are correct, the much smaller regular season will be good on the athletes bodies.

Late to the party here, but I always take anything College Gym News posts with a grain of salt. I mean, what else can you expect from a gymnastic's website that has a full series devoted to the analysis of a FreeForm TV show and considers that as important as analysis of college teams?

I'm in the same boat. I guess its nice that there are people out there that try to cover the sport but quite a bit of their analysis and pieces they put out make no sense. That recruiting class ranking was laughable.

Gym 101 has been scheduled for 12/17. Although not specific, looks like Tiger Spotter Members are the only ones allowed into the PMAC. The event will still be streamed on SEC+
