I always wondered why she picked Bama over LSU when she’s from Louisiana. And although Bama has tradition, LSU is clearly a better program right now. I’m so excited about the depth that LSU will have on vault and floor next year! There is literally no reason LSU can’t put up six 6.0 start value vaults next year.

Money money money

Glad she is coming to LSU though. Depth wise, this helps a lot on vault, beam and floor. I expected Kai and Kiya in that vault lineup next year. It will be between Ferrer, Ryan and Kirby on vault for that last spot.

Just thinking about lineups next year, where does Kirby, D’Antonio, & Caitlin Smith fit in? I know Kirby has done bars and floor in the past but I don’t see her breaking into the floor lineup. Bars maybe? D’Antonio is a legit beamer but Kiya will get the final nod along with the five returning girls (Desederio, Dean, Durante, Edney, Campbell).

Caitlin Smith has a lot of work to do before cracking any lineup....

D’Antonio has a nice full but not sure how she will beat our kids in front of her. She has to compete consistently in training if she ever wants to see a spot in the lineup on beam. Kiya will step in immediately on beam. Kai potentially can knock Dean out of beam lineup depending if she can perform consistently. That is the question. . My main gripe with Dean is she gets hammered for those bent knees and borderline leaps. She is definitely very consistent though which she has that going for her.

Kirby is interesting. Floor wise, she is very clean and consistent. Much more consistent than Ruby. Ruby though they like her more strictly because of the difficulty aspect of her floor routine. Ruby’s double full was a bit erratic at the end of the year. Bars, I don’t see how Kirby beats out Kai or Kiya but she can beat out Ferrer if she continues to develop and compete consistently.

Good thing is there will be a lot of competition and options. I feel a helluva lot better about the vaulting situation with the addition of Kamryn. Kamryn also trains a beautiful 1 1/2. Even if she is just a 1 event kid, a walk on that can bring a big score on vault like that would be huge. Floor she does train a double Arabian but her foundation on floor is very very strong with a lot to work with.

Kamryn Vault

For someone with more of an inside on the team, what is it that makes desiderio out of shape? Is she not working hard? Crazy to know she was at the elite level and wouldn’t be working hard.

She looks much "fuller" for lack of better words.

New: #LSU gymnastics proposed a new piece of legislation to increase the "head count" from 12 to 14.

Women's gymnastics has not seen an increase in scholarships since 1995.

I feel like there will be a lot of rotation at the beginning of the year. Kai and Kiya will hopefully gradually be worked into more events as their bodies adjust to performing every week as opposed to every 3 months. I would hate to injure them unnecessarily to get big scores in the beginning. I think DD, Bob, and Jay will play around with all the lineups.

I wouldn’t be surprised. LSU finally, after all these years, saw what can happen when they pace themselves and don’t peak early.

I read an article on The Advocate regarding this, and it appears that a lot of people are all for this (including D-D). I think the program’s success over the past 6 years are directly correlated to Jay being there. He is a masterful recruiter, and I think he’s what LSU has been missing all these years.

But I do question what this means for Bob Moore. He has had past vault champions in Gnat and Edney (two-time champion). Does he get a raise?

Also, I’ve been reading comments regarding LSU expanding its scholarships to 14. It seems a lot of people are against it. But I feel if two more athletes can be provided a great education, I’m all for it. Clearly the university has the funds to expand. Plus gymnastics is growing, and I think it’s time to expand the scholarship opportunities.

Why? Was it a financial issue?

Bob Moore has done an incredible job for years. He may be ready toretire given his wife's recent medical issues and a desire to slow it down. No doubt a position in the Athletic Department could be made available if that is what he wants. If he does remain on staff no doubt he would be receive a boost in pay. Perhaps there was no announcement on a pay boost if he is retiring.

This would be an NCAA matter , not an individual school or conference. The SEC woul be influential in getting legislation passed.

It would also be great if the other six schools who don't field a gymnastics team would jump on board. That would be nother 72 scholarships each year. Friday Night Flight has had an incredible impact on the interest in the sport from many who had not followed the sport very closely.

I honestly don’t see Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Texas A&M, South Carolina, Ole Miss, or Mississippi State being open to adding a gymnastics program. Although I wish they would! I love seeing more opportunities for women in general.

And yes, I agree with you about Bob Moore. I’m not sure how old he is, but with his wife’s recent health scare, I can definitely see him devoting more time to her.

He also coached Susan Jackson, Ashleigh Clare Kearney and Reagan Courville (two times) to vault titles. Gnat never won a vault title.

That’s right. Gnat’s title was the SEC vault title a few years after Myia’s. Got ahead of myself.

Wonder if Bugs is in line for a full time coaching spot if Bob retires, even though she is young.

If they want more experience tap that Georgia pipeline again for Danna Durante.

The proposal for increasing scholarships from 12 to 14 has been shot down. So much for wishful thinking.
