Pretty sure my first ever post on tigerdroppings was a request to take down the “Joe Mcknight is awesome” story tigerdroppings had up the day he was going to announce. Chicken was the first response, and he did. Lol

McKnight was a big one. And if I remember right, the year Fornette signed, there were 5 highly rated recruits. Talk was we'd go 5 for 5. Alas, it didn't go that way, but we did get Fornette.
We got the two best of the 5.
Adams and Fournette
Hootie, Speedy and Tony Brown.
At the time recruitniks melted their faces off. Turned out 2/5 was the best scenario.

Biggest melt in the history of tRant.
Wrong
1/9 was the biggest melt by a wide margin.

I was there…I don’t think anyone was expecting McKnight to announce LSU that morning. It was pretty much expected.
I was not there, but this is how I remember McKnight's recruitment as well.

Idk why people were surprised. It was pretty well known McKnight wasn’t coming to LSU.

Bayou Bash. I went to almost all of them.

Ole Miss was actually a lot closer to getting him than LSU. We were a distant 3rd.

Those were great. I used to go to them often when they were in the Sheraton Atrium, especially back in the Saban days.

I went to the bashes since Dinardo. The bash was my favorite event of the year $15 bucks to get in the early years, beer bars open at 730 am eating Krispy creme donuts and sausage biscuits got a free copy of tigerrag and the purple and gold recruiting newspaper with check list to mark off the recruits we got.

Fun story since I helped plan most of them. I had met with Saban and convinced him to come. As I was leading him in to the Bash he asked how many people are here and how long do you want me to talk. I told him there are about 3,000 people here and you talk as long as you want. He stopped and looked at me in amazement. 3000 people he said? I said yep. He said well let’s give them their money’s worth. And he always did. So did Les. With his bleep Alabama and no chest speeches. The Bash was a great event. Alas, it is gone forever.

I had a close encounter of the 3rd kind at an LSU recruiting bash with Gerry DiBig-nose.
I was sitting at a table with an open chair beside me, and he walked up holding 2 cell phones and sat beside me. When he got off of his call, I asked him if he had any news to share. He said " We just lost Travis Minor."

Watching Shawn Jordan highlights and thinking we just got the greatest fullback in the history of the game while drinking beer on a workday was stuff of legends.

Why did those events go away? Is it due to early signing/transfer portal? Or was it the combo of COVID in 2020 and a coaching change in 2021?

They were awesome. Of course i went in 2008 and 2009 and there were some sad moments

As did I. Myself 5 or 6 buddies and one of my uncles used to all take off of work that day and get laced! Fun times that we will always have memories of.

Went to every one. Started at the field house. The guys were all LSU Football, till the LSU Gymnastics Team had to practice at the other end of the field house. Then a bunch of old guys watching the young girl’s practice. They moved it to the Centroplex, and Catfish Atrium, a short stint at the Casino.
Beer and food all day, big tailgate party, what’s not to like. Some schools from up North came down, trying to duplicate, but it never worked for them.
The good old days!

McKnight should have played DB in college and the NFL. Didn't LSU wany him as a DB primarily? Obviously they would have taken him either way though
