A hypothetical question

If you were going to pick 40 kids 10 years old for a pee wee football team and you had never laid eyes or heard anything of these kids. You are on a football field with 150 kids trying out and you have to pick 40 for your team.

They line up and run a 40 yard dash and 8 of them clearly blow the field away.

The kids trying out for QB start throwing and 2 of them have rifle arms.

The linemen run and do agility drills and 8 of them are clearly the most athletic and the biggest.

You can pick any of them and you would take all of the 8 fastest, the 2 QBs with rifle arms and all 8 of the big fast athletic guys.

This is all the stars do, they do not predict the future, they rate the kids for the measurable athletic features, size, speed, quickness, athletic ability.

No guarantees on any of them but you want the biggest percentage of your recruits rated high of course.

Based on your interactions in this thread I completely agree.

Also, it's not close to signing day why in the world is this board being cluttered with bullshite star threads right now.

you lack a basic understanding of statistics or you're trolling.

People have proven you wrong in this thread. You can have an opinion if you want. But it's wrong.

Multiple people have offered reasoned responses regarding how they view stars and rankings. You respond with this. It's clear who is unwilling to or incapable of talking common sense.

quote: You're the typical college fan that believes everything he reads says the guy that doesn't understand basic math and uses the pro bowl as some kind of measuring stick There are roughly 30-35 players rated as 5* every year. If every single one of them made the NFL and played for 10 years, that would be 350 players. There are roughly 1700 players in the NFL. quote: I'm not saying some 4 and 5 stars don't pan out, but most are very overrated. what you are doing is treating the perfect as the enemy of the good. 5* players make the NFL at a much higher rate than lower ranked guys, but due to shear numbers, more 3* and below will make the league. The top 5 players of the 2013 class Were : Robert Nkemdiche, Chris Jones, Laremy Tunsil, Vernon Hargreaves III and Jaylon Smith. Nkemdiche, Tunsil and VHIII were all first rounds and Smith would have been if not for tearing his knee in the bowl and he still was the 2nd pick of the 2nd round. Jones went #37, that's 5th or so in the 2nd round. quote: I put more on coach evaluations than somebody trying to sell subscriptions that you have no clue to their background. Keep sending them your money, they love fans like you! The 2 are not exact opposites, have you noticed that the 5* tend to sign with the top schools? This is really one of the dumbest cliches out there. If the coaches released their board it would not be all the different from the services.

Thank you. Saved me some trouble. It became obvious before I finished my reading the OP that he clearly didn't know what he was doing.. Then came the Perrilloux comment and I knew he wasn't a "full time" fan.

For the OP: It's in percentages, not total numbers.. And please know your argument (stars/ratings) and supporting evidence (players) before presenting it.

statistics indicate that teams with the best star ratings win the SEC west nearly all the time. Cam Newton was the exception.

If stars are overrated then LSU should just go after 2 and 3 star players.Lets see how much LSU wins.
