Proof of Alabama Bias in Recruiting Rankings

So, for anyone who has read this recruiting board, or has followed recruiting for more than a day must know that for some odd reason, any and every ALABAMA commit seems to be magically upgraded in rankings significantly.
Nonetheless, I felt, in the interest of humor, I felt like sharing a well known anecdote of how Bradley Sylve got rated significantly ahead of LSU commit Jarvis Landry.
1) Jarvis Landry was rated #7, ahead of Bradley Sylve.
2) Bradley Sylve suffered a "season ending injury" while Jarvis Landry played his antebellum off and amassed staggering statistics while showing some impressive bluechip WR skills
3) Before either of the 2 WR's had commited, Scout had rated Sylve as #209 in its rankes - FAR from being a 5-star. A move to a 5-star would generally only be granted after a phenomenal season with awesome stats that shadow Landry's
4) Alonzo Lewis also suffered a similar serious injury that might have been the sole reason why he is ranked so low in the WR charts (around 20 in the LA prospect list). YET, he is ranked worlds apart from Sylve (not denying their diff. in talent, just a larger diff. in ranking)
YET, SOMEHOW before even playing in his senior season, by simply committing to Alabama, he is ranked above Jarvis Landry.
Now, I do not deny Sylve's raw talent, and I am sure there isnt too much talent difference or ability to make an early impact between Sylve and Landry. But it is shameful that Landry gets ranked below Sylve. This does not change my opinion of Sylve's phenomenal talents and I hope that come February, he is wearing purple and gold, but it does provide further proof of Alabama's influence in recruiting.

10) Bradley Sylve (South Plaquemines) WR (5-11, 175) - Explosive receiver who dominates on the Class A level. Able to split a double-team with ease. Dangerous kick returner with elite speed. Also a track star. Suffered a season-ending injury in the first game of his junior year. LSU is the big favorite for Sylve's services, according to reports. Has offers from LSU, USC, Alabama, California, Tennessee, and others. Ranked as the No. 207 player in the nation by Scout.com. (9)

It will be more conclusive if he did switch and he dropped to a 4 or 3 star.

wait, sylve is rated ahead of landry? i gotta see this shite

Sylve is ranked ahead of him on ESPN.
But all the Bama recruiting bias bullshite is exclusively dealing with Rivals.

Well, technically it is. ESPN just mirrors what the other two do, so . . .

The other two both have Landry ranked significantly ahead of Sylve.

Well, ESPN has to do some things to make it look like they aren't copying.

Not really, ESPN usually has some strange rankings, ostensibly to set themselves apart from the other services.

Sylve ranking is based on his pre-injury speed. I will wait and see how he does this year before I'm convinced he's better than the others on the board. From other reports, he's not close to being back, yet!

what about the rest of the bama recruits?
Posted on 8/20/10 at 10:30 pm to LSUGTFAN
I think Sylve has a lot of talent, but he's not even close to Landry. Those very few who rate him above Landry are drinking too much 'Bama koolaid & don't know what they're talking about!

espn changes rankings like models change clothes.
at the end of the football season everything will panout on espn, not rivials.

Beat bama consistently and outperform them in the SEC West and nobody will care about any of this.

That is true. But the thing is Saban has an incredible eye for talent and he can develop it. When he was at LSU, he managed to get the same talent here, Only they werent as well rated. Now, at Bama, he has all 4 and 5 star calibers (many of them getting 4 stars over night). Thats all i am saying. I am not denying their talent level, which is incredulous, just the increased bias because they are from Alabama. Thats all.

To add fuel to your argument, Landry tore it up at every camp and 7-on-7 tournamnet he participated over the summer. Where was Sylve? Oh yeah, still recovering...he has shown nothing since getting injured and reports from folks that have seen him this summer say Sylve is a step slower and hesitant to change direction.

That is understandable. Under Saban's tutelage they expect Syle will see the field as a fteshman. Landry with Miles, not until he is a Jr or Sr.
Aren't those star rankings based on their projected time of contribution. Five Star- projected to contribute as a Freshman. Two Star-contribute as a Sr or maybe never.

Didn't Sylve suffer another injury during track season? I would rather us take a guy who may not be AS GOOD as Sylve but could at least stay healthy. With the WR talent we have brought in in '09, '10, and what we have coming in for '11, IMHO, BS isn't a must get. We are stacked at WR for years to come. I'd rather us get a guy who could at least contribute on ST, rather than waste a scholly on a guy who will constantly have nagging injuries. Let's get Brisset, OBJ, Robinson, and Raven..... Hell, we may even get an out of the blue commit ala Sam Montgomery.
ETA: I am seriously doubting we get Rasco.

uhhhhh NO. You are simply payingg attention to one of the 2 things that ESPN wrote for their star rating explanations. The expected time of impact in their 4 year career is based on their talent level. A 5 star is good enough to compete to from freshmen yet because of his TALENT level against top level College corners. A 2 star is not as talented. Could have the ability to contribute by jr or sr season if he was coached up and prepped for a couple of years (whether its physical lacking or mechanics, footwork etc).
you have to look at BOTH aspects. They are not mutually exclusive.
