No. They are based almost entirely on upside. Obviously there are other factors, but 5 stars are the guys they believe will end up being the biggest impact players in college and the NFL.

But all the Bama recruiting bias bullshite is exclusively dealing with Rivals.
Then why would Rivals allow Auburn, Alabama's biggest rival, to finish one spot ahead of Alabama in the 2010 rankings? Surely, in all their efforts to help Alabama's rankings, they could have found the necessary points to drop AU, or move Alabama up.

It's all part of the big plan... It's pretty obvious that is why since ESPN was all over Auburn yesterday
Right?
Right?

I ask the same question again. If they're so biased towards Alabama, how could they possibly allow UA's biggest rival to finish one spot ahead, and by less than 100 points?

Yes, Rivals bumps up mediocre players for Alabama. Yet, somehow we've managed to go 26-2 the last two years, with those overrated players as the core of the roster. It's amazing actually.

As much as I dont like Saban, he's a hell of a coach and motivator.
But come back and brag after the season is over.
Preseason #1 means nothing without wins....

Oh, now it's just 2010. I thought Rivals just did this in general.

But being a defending national champion does.

There is a bias and it has more to do with making money. Alabama and Texas has the highest subscription rates for Rivals and other sports recruiting mags in football. Duke has the highest for basketball. You hear on the Heard about how Duke recruits are always rated higher because it sells. The same is for Alabama and Texas. If you want LSU recruits to get top ratings, we need to buy more subscriptions.

No one is denying that Alabama has talented recruits. And everyone here and probably the rest of the nation can agree that Saban is a god when it comes to nurturing average talent and making it beastly. He proved that at LSU and continues to do so at Alabama. This discussion is completely exclusive of your statement. The point is that if the cruit is a 3 start or borderline 4 star, more often than not, if he commits to Alabama, he will get bumped to a low or mid-4 start. The point is the consistent slight bias when it comes to Alabama recruits. The question has not being raised whether Alabama recruits are talented at any point in time. So quit getting all offended that we said something against Alabama and start observing the facts.

I heard the top guy at Rivals is a Bama backer

I agree with this, if there is a bias. Bama players do get bumped but let's not kid ourselves here, they can ball. These sites are out to make money and I can't blame them but I don't see why people get so upset about it, it literally means nothing. It's what you do with those players and how they perform on the field that matters and, of late, Bama has a huge edge in that category.

That is understandable. Under Saban's tutelage they expect Syle will see the field as a fteshman. Landry with Miles, not until he is a Jr or Sr.
Aren't those star rankings based on their projected time of contribution. Five Star- projected to contribute as a Freshman. Two Star-contribute as a Sr or maybe never.
Where do you idiots get this stuff?

Isn't that the case at Texas, Florida, Ohio State, and USC as well? Those staffs have a track record of producing winning teams, and NFL draft picks. Shouldn't the evaluators at Rivals, Scout, or ESPN take a lot of stock in what those staffs think of a player. If the recruiting of Saban, Tressell, Brown, or Meyer continues to produce results, why do people bitch that a player moves up the rankings with an offer from said school? The proof is in the pudding.

Where was Alabama ranked last year in the final AP poll? any bias in that?

Bama sells subscriptions. Pumping up Bama will rake in more money. Simple as that.

the same thing happens on ESPN. Look at Sylve being the no. 35 player in the nation and fanciane (kid from miss.) in the top 100. both of those are terrible rating.
Posted on 8/24/10 at 10:02 am to CapstoneGrad06
Because an offer from a school should not change jack shite. Rankings are based on the recruiting agencies classifications of their talents. It should have nothing to do with who offered them. The whole point here is that unfortunately it does. LSU won a national championship in 2007. OUR recruits didnt get mysteriously bumped up because we offered. Yet, whether ALABAMA won a national championship or not, their recruits get bumped up in ranking. That is suggesting that a college offer is the sole thing that has changed their rankings, which shows a change in their estimated abilities. This happens more so with Alabama. We are not denying that it may be happening, or is happening, with Texas, or USC etc. They are not in our conference so we dont care as much. We are in the SEC and follow SEC schools under a micrscope. As such, Alabama recruits being bumped up is what is observed the most.
