Would be surprised if we took that many. I think we will be around 15-18.

Yeah, it’s gonna be interesting. I think we take 15-18 starter type players, but add another 5-10 for depth with the relaxed roster limits. You may see more project and or program type layers as well as top tier all conference type additions.

I imagine the new staff is doing evals and we will have a bit more attrition, especially on the offensive side of the ball. I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up being over 20.

It’s going to be an expensive spend. Portal starters generally going for 1.5X to 3X a HS 4 star.

Really don’t think that will happen. Rarely do 2 QBs play starter type minutes in a season. And most, if not all of the QBs in the portal are either looking for a bigger payday, a starting job, or both.
You won’t get 3 QBs from the portal willing to battle it out for the starting job. 2 at most.
It’s not that we don’t need them, it’s just very unlikely to happen IMO

We had 29 signees last year plus 18 in the portal. Yes this is the new normal.

They expanded rosters this offseason from 85 to 105.
I don’t think we fill them all, but we will take more than you think. Many of whom may not get NIL but will fill roles even if for just practice depth.

You have to get minimum 2 portals if MVB returns. Cannot go into a season with less than 3 scholarship QBs.

I think we get three. One may be a freshman that is willing to sit or just wanting the chance to play for LSU. Gotta have an emergency QB.

Sheesh, I guess you’re are right. Along with the roster increase from 85 to 105.
Just seems like overkill. I’d rather have a quality over quantity, but I guess that’s where Glasscock comes in and determines how to spread out the money.

If MVB transfers and Hurley doesn’t come back for whatever reason, they may have to unless they severely overpay for all 3. That’s what happens when you go a couple of years without signing any HS QBs.

This might work. Especially one coming from somewhere that has had a coaching change or they just aren’t as happy as they thought they would be where they are.

Was just going over needs with the ones LSU is losing and the small incoming class. Surprised me when it kept coming up as LSU will need to bring in at least 25. That’s wild, but I don’t see it being much less than that.

Had this conversation about transfer QBs with my wife today. We need two guys that Lane believes can take the wheel and lead right now. Let them compete for starter 1 and backup. But bring one if not two more to develop for future and or emergency. Numbers obviously depend on whether MVB stays - and I doubt Coach Kiffin thinks of him as 1 or 2 but rather the #3 if he can swing it. Just don’t know if MVB would stay for that.
To OP: good job with starting this. I think you are more correct than wrong anywhere. We need starters and depth. Hopefully many want to come play for Lane.

I think we will have success bringing in two top level QBs as well as someone who wants to train under Lane for future growth.
