And yet nobody was complaining when he signed all the kids he signed.

Some work out, some don’t, some get injured. Hindsight is great isn’t it

Yea lol it’s incredible how people are acting like Kelly walked into a good situation. This is year 2 of a total rebuild. No, things aren’t perfect but we are doing pretty well overall considering.

I mean they could've maybe given more nil or sold cypress harder at corner.

What else could they have done?

They missed on their portal targets. Zy Alexander is actually a decent corner. He just shouldn't be a cb1 at lsu

I hate to rain on your parade but stars definitely mean something.
While there are exceptions sometimes the teams who recruit the best usually win the most games or they are at least consistently in the top 25 and top 10.

You think UGA, Bama, Michigan, Ohio State, and LSU would all be top programs if they recruited 2 star athletes?

There is no way that professional evaluators know more than star gazers here.

On3

quote:

According to On3's Draft by Stars data, five-star recruits have a 63% draft rate over the past five years. This is significantly higher than three-star recruits, who have a draft rate of only 5.3%. Four-star recruits fall somewhere in the middle, with a 5.2 times higher likelihood of getting drafted than two-star recruits. These stats suggest that star rankings from recruiting media companies do matter in NFL draft success, and a higher ranking can give a player a better chance of being drafted.

Bleacher Report

quote:

We've also learned that 52 percent of 5-star players get drafted and that 75 percent of those draftees are retained.

There are like 35 five star players

There are hundreds of 3 & 4 star players.

There are 3 star players that lsu lands, and there there are 3 star players that go to Appalachian State.

Stop judging everything on star rankings.

The math isn’t hard here

Then why don't teams only recruit two and three star players?

No point in even having recruiting sites if stars don't matter.

These teams usually have the best coaching staffs also.

Brian Hartline has recruited 3 and 4 stars that have made the league.

I do agree that the best teams recruit the best. That also means that if they all want a 3 star that the player is usually good.

Star ratings are based off of what teams show interest & offer kids. And a lot of the time they are slow to calibrate what are very fluid situations in the recruitment of athletes.

Recruiting sites just quantify this information for profit. Teams don’t recruit players based off of what recruiting sites say lol. There is nothing scientific about what they do.

PJ Woodland is a kid who has 7 SEC offers + TX, FSU & TAMU & interest from Bama but you’d rather look at On3’s rating of him
At 558 nationally & judge him on that

Just take a look at some of the comments above and educate yourself. You could write a novel of the missteps in recruiting and obtaining talent in the secondary since CBK arrived. That’s not up for debate. Not to say they aren’t trying to rectify the situation. One injury to JK doesn’t negate that though lmao

Dramatic much?

You could write a novel on the missteps

All you can say is they should've closed on cypress.

Chestnut was a fine take. He just didn't look right when bullets started flying.

Zy Alexander is a decent corner. Then they took jk Johnson and Denver as younger guys who could grow. One is out for the yr and one hasn't played that great.

Now if you want to bitch about Evans and Bates, go ahead.

I’d guess they could have landed more CB’s that don’t have discipline issues.

Chestnut didn’t have any kind of rep for being a discipline issue or a head case. There’s always going to be some level of risk with portal guys who are basically mercenaries being like that, no matter what they’ve been like before coming.

As for Harris, they had three other portal CBs plus Welch, Ryan and Stamps coming in and Toviano as a potential backup option being that he was an early enrollee. On paper, it looked like they had adequately buffered themselves from the risk of him going full headcase. And he had more raw talent than even Cypress from UVA.

Obviously we are now in a full on Murphy’s Law situation at CB. NOTHING has worked out or gone right, but there was no way to predict that, especially the injuries. Last year we basically saw the exact opposite, with JBC, Gardner, Foucha and Brooks all hitting and immediately being reliable contributors.

Y’all are confusing y’all’s own blind optimism with the reality heading in to this season. Everyone, including the coaches, was concerned about CB depth. Everyday there was a thread about needing DT’s and CB’s. There were 100 threads about how bad we needed Harris to get his stuff together and become what he was supposed to be. The coaches kept recruiting CB’s until the end. It was always a concern. It wasn’t just a “things happen” or “hindsight is 20/20”. It was pretty clear.
