There was one year when recruiting rankings actually started, 2002, I believe, that Evangel had 4 players in the top 100 rankings. They had 3 QBs who were #1 overall rated in their class and I believe #1 overall recruit in the country their respective year, Josh Booty, Brock Berlin, and John David Booty. It was a down year between them when they had like the #80 overall recruit, top 5 QB, Brent Rawls. Peyton Houston, although 20 years later after JD Booty, will be another one. I think Phillip Deas was another 4 star or 5 star so that'd make 6.
I know they had to of either paid players or set up parents with good gig jobs, but I just don't know how there were that many in the Shreveport area to produce like they did. Unless they brought from further regions.
Since recruiting rankings weren't really published on sites like 247 until 2002, who knows what kind of players that had before 2002.
I hear the most talented player to go through Evangel was Eric Jefferson though in the mid-90s. He was a 5 star top 3 or so recruit Defensive Tackle from Shreveport Ghettos. Went to Illinois which was kind of puzzling, but he had such deep seeded issues that ended up going to prison for something, but heard he just obliterated any OL he went up against like they were toddlers. Like Glenn Dorsey or better.

It was impossible to generate any kind of pass rush. You’re right.

Damn. North La. representing!

Evangel recruits nationwide. Families with high ranking kids move to the area. No inside info, but it has happened numerous times.

After film study final stats were national record. There were some questions about penalty yards and laterals being forward passes instead
53-68 817 yards 8 TDs
88 rushing yards 2 TDs.

I've seen several different articles stating 3rd all time, 2nd but why are some saying a national high school record. Will Grier threw for 837 yards in 2012. Are some records not recognized or confirmed through certain outlets. Just curious. Everyone stating its a record says "National Football High School" record like its a separate record book or something.

I guess evangel is still running the same offense as always. Although I believe they've taken it beyond what it was. When Berlin was there they threw it a lot , but I think it seemed like alot because most schools ran the wing t. They probably didn't throw it near as much as they do now
I’m thinking you have a LOT of former Evangel and Calvary players (and Texas HS studs) growing up to be assistants now all over Northwest LA
Plus you have the QB gurus in the Dallas area and Shreveport is just close enough to there… even before Evangel Shreveport area was producing QB studs and Evangel and Calvary recruiting doesn’t explain why Airline, Parkway, North DeSoto, Huntington, etc. have had some

actually recalculated off of film and the total was 816 yards. Every school is after him and he is a soph at Evangel. LSU definitely in the mix.

Well that and defense seems to be a foreign concept to NWLA teams.

I see they don’t like playing much defense up in Shreveport..

If you need a QB or CB, go to NWLA. The run of DBs from Shreveport has been impressive as well. I think in a preseason game a few years ago 3/4 of the secondary for the Dallas Cowboys were all SBC guys.

Sneed might be the best in the NFL right now...

I've been saying I would take this kid first

There is an embarrassment of riches, having him, Haven and Zeigler all in-state in one class.
