Wait - RR's dad is actually on the air talking and he said this?

Yes and that's what I gathered.

He basically said the coaches told Randle he'd compete with Toliver at the X or Z spot(I forgot which) and then told Benton he'd compete with Randle for the Y Spot.

This is getting ridiculous. FWIW, I think you guys are still sitting pretty for both Randle and Benton. And honestly, I don't think it would hurt anything other than your pride to lose one of them... you guys will be stacked for years to come, and both are absolute phenoms.

Mingo was LSU from day 1 and everyone knew it. Atleast everyone in WM knew.

He's saying Randle was told one thing and they are telling Benton another about having to compete for the same spot.

BS. Both guys know they have to compete. Nothing is promised. Are they actually afraid Benton will earn a spot over Randle? Are they mad Randle is not being promised a spot?

So is his father scared of RR having to compete with these players?

Funny how "depth chat concerns" are hardly ever an issue with Florida or USC.

He basically said if the coaches lied to them now what makes him think they won't lie to him next year or the year after that, etc.

When will the guy realize that all coaches lie to get them into their program
It still doesn't make sense that LSU would tell RR and DB that each other would have a better shot than the other to compete for a spot.

That being said, if they are looking for an excuse to soften the blow, is taking a shot at LSU and its coaches the right way?

randles dad is ticked. it all comes down to lsu not being honest at what position randle would be competing for.

Damn. I am sure this is all a misunderstanding and now LSU can't talk to them to clear it up.

Why would our recruiters tell two guys that are friends or at least interact daily, and then expect that they won't talk to each other. I smell bullshite.
The Gumps are in the middle of it, stirring it up, trying to make people say bad things about Randle so he will get pissed at LSU and go to Bama, or just to try to influence them, or just to be pricks in general. I'll go for the latter.

Damn, that's bad news. I don't really follow recruiting but I was really hopeful. This does not sound good, however.

Educate my ignorance of recruiting: can our coaching staff contact his family now to try to straighten things out or is there no more contact until after NSD?

It sounds to me like it's not about that, but telling other players differently about the competition than what they told the Randles.

i dont think so. randles dad is very straight forward and honest and thats the way he likes things. benton hasnt played football in a year and has lost some size. he has a lot of catching up to do.

It is pretty clear that RR is not going to LSU and his dad is spinning it as LSU trying to screw him as to not take so much heat for signing out of state.
The take home message is LSU is the bad guy, not the Randle's.

On the bright side, if Randle feels it's better to sign somewhere else, then Bell will probably stay committed and Kelly might sign with us over Clemson.
