On the Sports Today radio show.

No surprise.

Do we need another guard?

Jones can't mention Odoh by name until he signs or enrolls. So it was just a way of beating around the bush

News comes out that LSU has offered 2012 guard Corban Collins on the same day that Jones says Isaac isn't coming back. Coincidence? I think not.

This is being discussed in the 2012 thread. Apparently he is qualified for 2012 now.

What is the deal with so many guys reclassifying to the 2012 class? Was it a weak class and guys are trying to get a better draft spot or something? Weren't Noel and Muhammed both originally '13s and not Trocha and this kid?

Reclassifying is a poor term. Very rarely, basically never, does a basketball player graduate early.

Probably 99 percent of the time, these kids are prep school kids who are just reverting back to their original class, or to a class just one year ahead of normal rather than two.

It's been happening for years. Muhammed didn't change. Noel actually moved to his correct class. He had repeated a grade when he went from public school to prep.

So when will we hear anything on COllins and/or Odoh? I would assume things are lining up pretty good, but when should we hear something about whether they officially sign?

That makes sense, thanks.

I'm still getting used to the ins and outs of basketball recruiting. It just seems like the higher in the rankings the player is, the less straightforward his recruitment is.

Kids are being recruited out of junior high to go to certain HSs, recruited from one HS to a prep school in a different state. Then there are the programs that aren't actually schools but have teams like Findlay Prep (and even worse, the diploma mills in TX and NC). There's the post grad schools, the AAU teams, the shoe company camps, the recruiting site camps.

It seems like 100 different people have 'coached' or 'mentored' these kids before they even hit a college campus.

Yes, basketball recruiting can be pretty fricked up. That's why I like it. There is always a lot of shite going on, and there are far less players to track. Also, players can make an immediate impact and a great one can dominate.

It's hard for me to get excited about signing an offensive lineman that won't see the field for three years.

There is no more signing. That ship has passed. You won't know for sure until they attend class.

When they sign a grant in aid to enroll in school. So in June or August for "official" announcements. Otherwise LSU can't discuss them
