Will sign Feb. 7, his mom Angie tells On3. Bo Davis getting hired solidified things for the entire family. Dom called it an “amazing” visit. Angie said Dom even has a partner church for him to attend in BR. All her questions were answered on the visit and she said the overarching word she’d use to describe the staff is “genuine.” Lots of good stuff to come from that chat tomorrow.

Davi’s already doing work

Hell yea! Now let’s get some DT’s out of the portal. Time to tamper.

So if Bo Davis hadn't been hired signing McKinley was not a done deal?

I’m sure Davis and People’s were the main targets. When David wavered, they turned the heat up on People’s and when Davis eventually signed, Kelly took them both because we ABSOLUTELY NEED STABILITY AT DLINE COACHING. It’s been killing us for to long so now we can point to that room and tell any recruit that we have the 2 best Dline coaches in college football. One may leave but we aren’t losing both.
It also tells me that Kelly reviewed the film of this defense and thought that the Dline play and talent hurt us more than the secondary. They couldn’t set the edge, tackle, maintain lanes or sack a QB. This made a patch work secondary look even worst than it really was.

Yep. Kelly knows how the championship teams are made… on the lines of scrimmage. LA is always going to have awesome athletes to take care of the other positions. If we can dominate on the los, we’re Bama.

Kelly knows he and Brad can get elite OL and TE. Bo and Peoples has to give you confidence on the other side.

This could be special.

Maason Smith could have really benefitted from a year with legit coaching.

penny wise, dollar foolish.

Yeah, I've been saying that for a while. Everybody dumps on the LSU secondary but being 11th in the SEC in sacks doesn't help a young secondary. I assume Swinson #13 will be back since he was a JR. He was the only LOS player that I trusted to put pressure on the QB. I agree DT needs to still be addressed but LSU needs to display better EDGE rushing next season.

So does everyone like the mom now?

Remember when it was going around on here that the mom wanted him at texas because of the education.

Mom wants what's best for her child. Once Kelly and Frank were able to show her that LSU could do everything and more that A&M or Texas can, coming to LSU became a reality.

I'm not trying to shite on Orgeron, but LSU had become a place where an educated, Christian mother did not want her son to be.

She had to be shown with more than words that this is truly the best place for her children. If she can be won over, I have every faith that Kelly and company can win over anyone.

It cannot be understated how McKinleys recruitment by LSU was a masterclass in recruiting in this new NIL and portal Era landscape.

Hope he doesn't end up on the Cowboys, then. ?? They didn't look like they had any coaching after that performance against GB.

I agree that not having a REAL DL coach didn't help anyone on the DL. Having said that, Wingo probably doesn't need another year at LSU but Maason Smith as you said clearly does. Lack of coaching didn't make Maason Smith slow which he was. Smith didn't look very "athletic" out there and that has 0 to do with coaching. He was either out of shape OR had not recovered from his ACL even after more than a year. He looked at best like an average starting SEC DL...and that is probably being kind. I would think 2 or 3 times before drafting him on "potential". Maybe he will be drafted 3rd day.

Edited: Just saw on DandyDon's interview with Mike Detillier that he says Maason Smith will go on the 3rd day of the draft. He also said IHO he should have returned to LSU to improve on some liabilities he has.

Whats wrong with that?

while we didn’t have a DL coach, A&M was probably selling him on the gospel (in addition to money). E-rob is a religious guy

That quote reads as if the church was a bonus not a deciding factor.

Of course folks will scoff that an individual would value their relationship with the Creator first and the things of this world second…priorities folks
